HOMEWORK IS SLAVERY?!?!?
I'm currently listening to NBC News (I know-a mistake). A kid is calling homework slavery and has gotten published in newspapers and guested on talk shows. He's 8!!! What is wrong with this COUNTRY???
Portnoy-I agree with a lot of what you said.What's sad is that they only have 5-6 hours in a 9 month year.No way can they actually TEACH anything. They must conform with "No Child Left Behind" which results in kids being responsible for teaching themselves. So much for THAT piece of B.S. The Teacher's Unions don't help either...

this is then kind of person that will grow up and think working is slavery and intern will live off the government like many of the Obama worshipers.
Actually, when I was his age I probably thought the same thing but at 8 I doubt they give him any amount of homework but the media and many politicians ( Al Gore included ) are doing their best to turn kids against their parents

Ridiculous - but if teachers did a better job teaching during the 6 or so hours they have kids a day they wouldn't have to teach themselves at home. Much of the homework is busywork to help with social promotion and reward kids for effort as opposed to learning.

Well I don't think the schools should give hours and hours of homework. Too much stress encourages suicide. But an hour a day is a good number, not too much, but still enough to teach, and help with work ethic.
