What is "Truth"..................?
Where after all, does this concept come from and why is it so basic to all human thought?
Every idea we have, every relationship we cultivate, every belief we cherish, every fact we know, every argument we make, every conversation we engage in, and every thought we think presupposes such a thing as "Truth".
The idea is an essential concept, without which the human mind could not function.
I am just "amazed" with the answers that have come forth! You guys are just wonderful!
Praise the Lord God!

Truth.
It is a "song".
Yes Carole, it is a song that everyone sings and listens to every day of their lives without knowing it.
Scientifically, it is called fact.
But what is a fact then?
Fact is something that happens and that does not change.
Life is a fact...death is a fact.
But is that all it?
The way I see truth, birth is the start of the song, and death is the end of the song.
Just like songs speak about a theme, our life is a theme of ourselves.
Just like songs, we have our own likes and dislikes, that makes us.
Truth is a composition of what people feel.
Truth is what happens, and truth is also what people see with their naked eyes...but then again, people can look at the same thing with different eyes and find a different meaning...just like one song can be composed with a video that says different things...but it's the same thing.
According to Albert Einstein, truth is something that is the same from every perspective, and that becomes a fact.
Sun rises from the East and sets in the West.
Day can be 12 hours long, or even 7 hours long, depending on the place, or the season.
Truth is always simple, yet complicated. Truth can be sweet, and bitter...and also bittersweet at times...just like the melodious songs we listen to.
Truth is something that we humans cannot define, because every person will have their own understanding and opinion of truth.
Even after a person dies, they are remembered by others, just like one song that becomes ancient, but people still listen to it.
Truth is something that cannot be covered by a lie forever, just like the cover versions of songs...but the original always remains as the original, no matter how many artists try to better it in their own style.
Just like that, we humans will either pick the cover version, or stick to the original...the same way we'd choose to believe what the truth is, or believe in the lie that seems like the truth...in that case, the lie seems like the truth from their perspective, but truth remains as it is.
Some believe in God and they have their reasons, just like that some do not believe in God, and they have their reasons. But all of us know one thing, one of these is the truth, yet both parties believe that what they believe in is the truth. The truth will become clear once a life departs...either the life will depart to a place where we call "hell" or "heaven", or it may never happen at all!
Just like some songs that don't make sense, and some that makes too much sense.
I hope you understood something.
I know, it may seem confusing for some and clear for some.
Thumbs Up if it makes sense, and Thumbs Down if it does not.
=)

Hello Glow wings,
I think you have asked an almost unanswerable question.
I say "almost unanswerable' due to the fact that it is open to personal interpretation today. Some persons find truth in errors, and other seek the truth, thorough a lifetime of experimentation and experiences. There are a number of human, scientific, philosophical, psychological, mathematical and logical truths, along with personal spiritual truths, which at times are often intermixed, which can also produce errors in judgements and errors that are accepted and considered by humans as the "truth". The folly of human concepts and ideas on what truth is has been evident since time itself began. They still have no real definition to offer, since the concept is open to personal experience and knowledge. For example, a person who has been taught, through constant application by others and/or reinforcement of the idea to the subconcience mind, that a circle is really a square, dispite the constant evidence proving otherwise, will go to their grave believing this is "truth". No amount of sure evidence will convince them otherwise. If given the chance, through certain social and intellectual factors, and a slow evolution of education relating that the former idea of a circle was an error that was taught in the past, a circle could actually be a square and universally accepted so. I use the term "universally" with emphasis here, as most accepted truths are universal truths, meaning they are the ones accepted by all concience beings, through a long evolution of learning and personal experience. This idea could take us into the realm of the personal psychological makeup of the individual, and would tangent off of your original question.
Now in my personal experience and opinion, Truth (yes, with a capital "T") is usually a way for a writer to express the spiritual side of the concept, and is also an acceptable method to place personal opinion into a usually pointless argument, oftentimes without actually coming out and saying it outright. A speaker will most, and should always let there audience know the use of the term right at the start, in order to avoid any misleading ideas, which is one of the biggest problems we have with using the word alone. Some will know this "Truth", and not have to ask any further upon the question, as they already know the answer. Others will not, for they know not the Truth (except that which makes them comfortable) This is where the difference in knowing the Truth lies: either one does know the Truth or not. Truth is the Lord Jesus Christ. It is in all the concepts that He taught and that His Holy Roman Catholic Church teaches today. No other "truths" have more power than those which Christ Himself founded.
All other "truths" are simply those which man has invented as an easy way of explaining things which cannot really be explained fully, but gives them (man) a false feeling of superiority and control over his universe. The whole intellectual idea of truth is veiled with many layers that have to be systematically stripped away, and even then, one may not want to see what is really underneath. Dominus vobiscum.

TRUTH (441) is simply something that does not change. falsehood has many legs to stand on and changes all the time, while Truth does not. Similarly, 1+1= 2, which is the only truth to that answer,..where every other answer besides 2 is falsehood ever changing , 1+1= 1, 1+1= 3, 1+1= 7, 1+1= 9 ..etc
Truth is infinite, while falsehood has an end and eventually is found out. Where ever there is Truth there will be life. ...and there you will find Truth as a signature of the One that put us here and made all things possible. Truth is His signature.

Pilot asked the question, "What is truth" after jesus said, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." John 18:37-38a
Jesus said, ...."I am the Way, the Truth and the Life." John 14:6a
Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31-32
"If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed." verse 36.
It all comes down to the fact that the truth is in Jesus Christ and the only way to find the truth is in Him.

The truth sets you free. Why? Because knowing the truth gives you the parameters to guide the way you live. What is the truth?
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
If we all lived our lives within the parameters of Torah, we would learn just what Messiah Yashua was trying to tell the Jews of His day about loving God and loving neighbor. It is all in there. It is the source of a sound mind:
Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

We all (or most all anyway) need a sense of truth to be grounded, for most of us could not live believing as Jigsaw does. To me truth is more than the facts. I need a higher wisdom and understanding to guide me. I have seen many occasions where the facts all pointed one way (this person would die) but the truth pointed another way (I serve a God who heals). When truth and facts do not seem to say the same thing, I personally choose to go with the "higher truth". And I have found at times that when I do this (which I guess is faith) that the facts sometimes change to line up with truth (person healed for instance). But not always. Sometimes we must continue to choose truth over the "facts" without seeing the reward. Very good question my dear.

It is a transparent concept, meaning that if I say "the sky is blue", it adds nothing to say "it is true that the sky is blue". Thus, truth is always in terms of the question being asked, it has no abstracted form separate from these. This is not relativism about anything but language. Once we define the terms we are using to ask a question, the way to get at answering it generally becomes plain. To ask "what is truth" without also adding "about x", is thus meaningless.

Joh 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Joh 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
When it comes to God, the only truth there is, is His Word. We are all to believe the same way(1 Cor. 1:10, John 17:20-23). We only have one set of scriptures given to us from God, we are to follow the Christ, the Messiah. His law is in the New Testament and we are to follow it to the letter.
Weather it is truth from God or truth between us, there can be no contradictions. If there are, then we have no truth, it is lies and Satan is a part of it weather we know it or not.

Mankind refutes the unchangeable fact that there is one absolute truth that binds all things together, yet in the fallen state of man we are bombarded with many "truths" that only last here upon this dusty earth. Here, truth is challenged and ignored, it is twisted and trampled upon by the freedoms that are given to mankind by God. But this is the momentary fate of man, to be able to make truth into a abomination before the Lord, then to come back and repent for endorsing a demonic lie.
Truth does resides on the earth, but it is not something to be easily initiated into ones life. Truth in the world can be bent and angled to fit our disfigured sculpture, our own composite sketch of the appearance of truth.

the truth is the light (what actually happened) and a lie is the dark (people hide in the dark because they are scared of the facts the light shines to bright)
we only know the proof when it is proven through trial and error. for example it is true that there is a sun and an earth all though it has many names its is the same thing and it exists. to say it does not exist is a lie...
it comes from our constant internal search for the truth, what ever truth it may be...
as humans we will never know the truth about EVERYTHING but we can die trying to figure it out..
