    2x + 8 = 14 - x

    Take 8 away from both sides.

    2x = 6 - x

    Add an x to both sides.

    3x = 6

    Divide by 3.

    x = 2

    Source(s): 2(2) + 8 = 14 - (2) 4 + 8 = 12 12 = 12

    You want to isolate the x, and you need to start by getting all the x's on the same side and all the constants(numbers) on the other.

    If you add x to both sides you get:

    3x + 8 = 14

    If you then subtract 8 from both sides:

    3x = 6

    Then divide both sides by 3 to get the x by itself:

    x = 2

    For your check, substitute your answer, which is 2, in for x in the original problem:

    2(2) + 8 = 14 - (2)

    4 + 8 = 12

    12 = 12

    So it checks.

    2x + 8 = 14 - x

    you need all the x's on one side on the equal sign and all the number on the other. everything you do you have to copy on both sides so:

    2x + x +8 - 8 = 14 - 8 - x + x

    simplify it:

    3x=6

    divide both sides by 3 and x=2

    EDIT

    go ami! me 2

    Well, you have to balance out each side, that's the first step, so we'll do that by taking 8 off each side making it

    2x = 6 - x

    Then we'll add x to each side

    3x = 6

    Then divide 6 by 3 and you have 2!

    So the answer is

    4+ 8 = 14 - 2

    x=2

    First, subtract the 8 from both sides. The equation looks like this now:

    2x=6-x

    Then add the x to both sides (cancelling out the x on the side with the 6 on it),. The equation now looks like this:

    3x=6

    Divide the three away from the x (since you are looking for the answer to what x could be) and since math stays = on both sides, divide the 3 into 6.

    x=3

    Hope that helped

    2x+8=14-x

    Plus x

    3x+8=14

    Minus 8

    3x=6

    Divide by 3

    x=2

    2(2)+8=14-2

    2*2=4

    4+8=14-2

    4+8=12

    12=14-2

    12=12

    2x + 8 = 14 - x

    +x +x

    3x + 8 = 14

    -8 -8

    3x = 6

    /3 /3

    x = 2

  • 1 decade ago

    2x + 8 = 14-x

    3x + 8 = 14

    3x=6

    x=2

    2(2) +8 = 14-2

    4+8+14-2

    12=12 ta-daaaa!!!

    2x + 8 = 14

    minus the 8 from 2x + 8 and 14, so then you would have

    2x = 6

    so multiply by the reciprical which is 1/2... its confusing, but the opposite of 2 is one half. so then it would be

    x = 3

    get it? i hope you do... its kind of hard to explain.

  • X=3

    1) you Subtract 8 from both sides

    2) you add x to both sides

    3) You divide by 3 on each side.

    X=3
