Wouldn't WORKFARE be a better Solution than Welfare?

lets say you lost your job--or could not get one--so you go on Welfare.

Now you get food stamps and some Cash until you find another job--which for some people seems to take forever---instead how about WORKFARE--you have to work for the government to get the money---and benefits that you would normally get on Welfare. You could file papers or other unskilled labor, pick up trash on the highway or do anything except sit around waiting for the next check--Drug testing ---(three strikes and your out for a year) would be mandatory and day care would be provided--you could work at the day care taking care of other WORKFARE peoples children.

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK!

I would get behind that kind of an idea but I would have to make sure of a few things first. The provided child care would have to be of a high quality not just a pound for kids while the parents are at work. That if people are given jobs at private companies those companies must live up to a minimum level of workers rights and after a probationary period (say three months) that unless the work fare person is completely unfit for the job the company must hire them and if they are fired after the company must prove that there is a good reason. Work fare can't just be a way for private firms to get workers that someone else pays for.

As mentioned that welfare workfare is already in place. Also in order to get cash assistance you need to work anywhere from 30 to 40 hrs a week in assigned work program that teaches job skills for real employment. Depending on the state this can be from 3 to 4 mos. Than recipients are required to do job hunting half of the time they would be working and listing these. There is also a 5yr CAP on Family Assistance benefits. That is if they do not get a job or learn a skill at the end of the 5 yrs they are still cut off. The only way around this is if they become disabled so they cannot not work at all. Note most, not all, disable can learn a new job skill that allows them to become self sufficient to some point but still need some assistance in food, medical or housing. As far as working as child care remember they not only need a background check but most do only earn minimum wage if they have no educational background. Than they are called the working poor barely making it from paycheck to paycheck. Check out my links below as to what the working poor must face every day.

O.K. first let me point out that when you say someone could work at a day care taking care of other peoples workfare children, are you aware you actually have to go to college to work at a daycare, it takes schooling to do that units in child developement are required. now that I got that out of the way, are you also aware that many people on welfare DO work but do not make enough money to make it without help. I do believe in most of what you say, work for the benifits you recieve, drug testing etc. Some are on the program so they can go to school to better themselves and get a good job. I do believe in order to qualify you should have to do SOMETHING to earn what you are getting however, not just sit around waiting for your check to come and kids to get out of school. Even just go to school would be better.

it would work. some countries actually do that to an extent.

so....no the USA government won't do it. send letters to ur local politicians and get involved in local ordinances. alot of states are talking about taking things into there own hands this could be something they would be interested in.

just watch out someone is gonna call u a commy.

Source(s): fix the world. no.....just blow each other up, j/k

For 8 hours a day? Where would somebody find the time to look for a real job? Then you have the potential for abuse, like states using an almost free labour pool to balance the state budget. There is the potential for state corruption, as forcing people to work for private companies for next to nothing.

There would need to be very strict rules for that.

Sounds like an excellent idea, as long as they make exceptions for people who genuinely can't work.

specific. i've got extra nutrients to multi-generational families on welfare, the grandmother pregnant with youngsters in one welfare hotel room, the daughter, pregnant with youngsters, in yet another room, same hotel -- the mummy taught the daughter the thank you to maximise subsidy earnings. it particularly is totally customary on the instant with the cost of single motherhood so intense. one among my brothers married a foul one -- now divorced she has taught her daughter -- my niece -- the thank you to tear-off the main out of welfare. varied social protection numbers, who's accustomed to what. toddlers from 2 diverse gang-bangers. It sickens me. We, my relatives, attempt to realize out to her and placed across right into a ethical zone, a job, help, a relentless domicile. each time we lose her. Why? because of the fact she loves the "freedom" of welfare. damn the liberal welfare mentality of no-account provide outs because of the fact they don't basically create the dependencies -- the regulations save actual ideas, actual families and pals from correcting the area! damn THEM! I DESPISE THEM ... because of the fact i admire my niece, my grandnephews ...

Maybe they can pick the lettuce and do "the jobs that Americans won't do" and we can kick out all the illegals.

Good idea! All you need now is to convince someone with the authority to implement it.

Recipients of family assistance are required to work.
