Hebrews 8:9 relates that the new covenant is not like the old one made with Israel. The new covenant is a "law" written on the heart, aka a new heart of flesh that replaces the stoney heart; aka the Spirit of God.
That which was engraven in stone is that ministration of death and condemnation -- not the spiritual law of God that leads to life. Note the two are being contrasted in II Cor. 3.

The "Law" is the Hebrew Torah of God, is to be kept forever. This same Torah will be written upon the heart under the "new covenant".
Psa 119:44 So I will keep Thy law continually, Forever and ever.
If the new covenant was truly fulfilled today the "House of Israel with the House of Judah"(Jeremiah 31:31) would be joined together living the Torah, keeping the Sabbath, the dietary and purity laws unlike "Christianity".
Jer 31:31 "Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the *house of Israel and with the house of Judah*,
Psa 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psa 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip.
Psa 40:8 I delight to do Thy will, O my God; Thy Law is within my heart."
Psa 119:34 Give me understanding, that I may observe Thy law, And keep it with all my heart.
Isa 51:7 "Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, A people in whose heart is My law; Do not fear the reproach of man, Neither be dismayed at their revilings.

The Lord promised, “A new heart … will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.”24 That spiritual heart surgery, like in the body, may cause you pain and require a change in habits and conduct. But in both cases, recovery brings renewed life and peace of mind.
Jeremiah's promised covenant was offered to Israel in Jesus' day, but found no enduring acceptance. It has been offered anew in this dispensation and is now beginning to be accepted, with the assurance that in due course, in the millennial era, complete fulfilment shall be brought to pass.
"This covenant has never been established with the house of Israel, nor with the house of Judah, for it requires two parties to make a covenant, and those two parties must be agreed, or no covenant can be made. Christ, in the days of his flesh, proposed to make a covenant with them, but they rejected him and his proposals, and in consequence thereof, they were broken off, and no covenant was made with them at that time. But their unbelief has not rendered the promise of God of none effect: no, for there was another day limited in David, which was the day of his power; and then his people, Israel, should be a willing people; and he would write his law in their hearts, and print it in their thoughts; their sins and their iniquities he would remember no more. Thus after this chosen family had rejected Christ and his proposals, the heralds of salvation said to them, 'Lo we turn unto the Gentiles;' and the Gentiles received the covenant, and were grafted in from whence the chosen family were broken off: but the Gentiles have not continued in the goodness of God, but have departed from the faith that was once delivered to the Saints, and have broken the covenant in which their fathers were established (see Isaiah 24:5); and have become high-minded, and have not feared; therefore, but few of them will be gathered with the chosen family."

Stone.
Jesus came to inaugurate this new covenant through His life and death and resurrection and by sending of the Holy Spirit.
The prophet Ezekiel wrote that the way the new covenant would secure the obedience of God's people ( striving to enter through the narrow door, Jesus Christ ) was by God's Spirit being given to them and by their own spirit being made new. God said through Ezekiel, " I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statues....
A new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in my statues and keep my rules and obey them." ( Ezek 36:27, 11:19-20 ). God's intention was to give His commands and all the ability to do them. That is the new covenant.
By His shed blood Jesus purchased this new covenant for all who trust Him. Then, on the basis of the forgiveness of sins that he obtained His people ) Matt 26:28 ) , He gave the the promise of the Holy Spirit. Read John 14:16, 15:26, 16:14 for what He said.
Therefore, by His death and by sending the Holy Spirit, Jesus obtains the new-covenant promises for toe who trust Him. And the heart of that covenant is that our sins are forgiven and the Spirit of God is give to help us do what Jesus demands, namely, strive to enter by the narrow door. In other words, Jesus' demand that we " strive to enter" does not mean he stands aloof and watches.
We are not left alone we are not left to ourselves in our striving. The command to strive is the command to experience the powerful striving of God on our behalf in fulfillment of His new covenant promise to causeus to walk in His statues ( Ezek 36:37 ).

Yes, but if you remember Moses dropped a tablet and it broke. That is how we ended up with just ten commandments instead of 15! I saw it on "History of the World Part I."
