How can I get round the self-inadequacy thing?
Over the past few months, some things (such as friends moving away, cutbacks at work, negativity of other people) have really knocked my confidence and I am feeling quite low at the moment.
I find I'm worrying over the slightest little thing, and over-thinking lots. I find I'm a bit distant from people. I also feel very inferior when I'm around very beautiful people and very confident or successful people - maybe it's because I want to be like them, and not a pathetic underachiever.
What can I do to get round this?
I'm not depressed or anything, and I don't believe in counselling or psychotherapy - it doesn't have any effect on me.

First you will have to put your ego aside and take some action ; like going back to school or moving to another state and getting a better job ; but you have lots of work to do on your ego if you want any good changes in your life

I have never met you but you are somebody. Tell yourself that; Do as my therapist said. Fake until you make it. Simply put do the things you don't like with a smile. Do small tasks and give yourself a pat on the back when done. Ask the people around you the secret to their success and copy it.

realize that everyone has their low points in life - even CEOs, even super models.
“Envy consists in seeing things never in themselves, but only in their relations. If you desire glory, you may envy Napoleon, but Napoleon envied Caesar, Caesar envied Alexander, and Alexander, I daresay, envied Hercules, who never existed.” -b, russell
