problem with my new computer (built for gaming)?
ok so i've gotten this new computer for christmas (cost a @#$% ton so i rly need the help) i got the geforce 9800 plus graphics card (xfx) and it runs great! BUUUUUUT! my games will hang every now and then and sometimes just close completely which can set me back hours if theres no auto save. i've done alot of trouble-shooting and im starting to think its the power supply (Ultra LSP 650 pro (650 watts)) my graphics card requires at least 450w and recommends 630w which i think could POSSABLE be it. but i noticed that my power supply is one that has some software built in and it apparently does not detect a graphics card! (its not my motherboard cause my computer can find it and its not the card cause the games run fine (cept for the closing) but i WOULD greatly appreciate some oppinions and views on this matter before i blow money on a power supply i'll list my other computer parts and would also like suggestions on power supplys (of a different brand cause i think its compatability issues)
Geforce 9800+ XFX - graphics card
ULTRA LSP 650 Pro - power supply
ASUS P5Q - Motherboard
Core 2 Duo - processor
and a DVD-ROM drive from SONY
if u read this whole thing then TYVM if u can help me i will be extemely greatful. (also i DID download all the drives and updates i could so plz dont reccomend that)
stop talking about ram! i have 4g so i defenatly have enough (the power supply, i think, is the root of the problem so suggestions about that would probably help alot)
also i downloaded smart doctor and it says theres no graphics card info detected (so it wont start)

I am hoping this is an XP box. If the power supply came with the case then it probably junk. Make sure you have the latest drivers. Get the latest Direct X. Make nothing else is running while your gaming. Visit games websites see if there are any patches available. If you PC shuts down look into better way to cool your PC. Antec makes some decent power supplies . Side note get an xbox360.

I am running a 9800gt on a 500w PSU very well so consider that out of the equation. The GFX might be bottlenecking your CPU, you may not have enough RAM or your sound may even be the problem. Check whether all your computer parts are securely in place.

How much RAM do u have?
If you have vista u need AT LEAST 3 gigs of RAM to run a game.
Also, ive heard XFX isn't the greatest brand

it very well may be a PSU problem....but to know for sure you need to slap a new one in there or buy a PSU tester such as this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...
Also it could be a over heating problem but i doubt it if you have a decent case....but yeah start with figuring out if its the psu and work from there.
Email me if you have any questions(paintballsoccer5@yahoo.com) cuz id be glad to help. I seem to enjoy troubleshooting for some reason haha

no you dont need 3gig to run a game on vista pshhhh! i would get 4gig max but 2gig is fine because you only use ram if ur system needs, it you want faster ram for better performance not more
