Why does OBAMA or any democrats say "WE INHERITED THIS ECONOMY"?

Senator Obama along along with the democrats have controlled CONGRESS since 2006 and the president can only VETO bills.

The debt --has climbed drastically since the democrats took over and the economy has tanked since they took over

Update:

perhaps some of you are missing the point.

YES--BUSH WAS PRESIDENT--but Congress controls the PURSE STRINGS--and the CONGRESS has been DEMOCRATIC since 2006.--This included SENATOR OBAMA.

Update 2:

perhaps some of you are missing the point.

YES--BUSH WAS PRESIDENT--but Congress controls the PURSE STRINGS--and the CONGRESS has been DEMOCRATIC since 2006.--This included SENATOR OBAMA.

Update 3:

K-Z--perhaps you should look at this--which clearly shows the deficit went down more--starting in 2006.

more of his slick talk that does not reflect the facts. Obama's voting record for the who;e time e was a U.S. Senator is public record, and checking it was a priority of mine before the election (in fact I thoroughly researched ALL the candidates) Obama voted with his fellow dems.97% in05 95%in06 and 99% in07 whiich means Obie voted for the same policy's he's crying about "inheriting" from Bush !

Actually, I believe that what Obama said is that "we inherited this DEFICIT." And yes. He did. And no, the debt has not "climbed drastically since the Democrats took over." The greatest spike in the deficit occurred in 2002-2005, and it started to go back down in 2006. This was mostly due to events in Aghanistan and Iraq. Do the actual research, k? The national debt in 2000 was roughly $5.7 trillion. In 2006, before the Dems took back Congress, it was roughly $8.5 trillion. That's an increase of about 50%.

Also, the housing market was beginning to swan dive around 2006, it's just that people weren't talking about it yet. Property lawyers I know were groaning about the subprime and zero-interest and 50 year mortgages and how they were going to crash the economy several years ago.

THAT is no single party's fault, it's not even the government's fault, but partially the Federal Reserve's fault. (The Fed is not directly controlled by the government, but it's their responsibility to set the interest rate - which has been too low for the last several years, resulting in too many people buying houses that were too expensive - and to regulate the savings and loan industry.)

The president is head of executive branch as well as commander-in-chief, and his veto pen is worth about a third of the votes in congress. It would have been impossible for the Democrats to pass anything either without significant support from Republicans in congress and/or support from the Republican president, especially with the razor thin majority Democrats held for those two years.

Seriously, do you not know how the US government works?

As for the debt, it has climbed drastically every year Bush was in office. Actually, every year any modern Republican president was in office. The only one who actually came out with a balanced budget was President Clinton.

They say it because they know that almost half of America is ignorant enough to believe that Republicans were actually in control of the purse strings for the past 2 years...oddly enough, the economy was doing just fine before the democrats gained a majority in Congress.

    1. The Dems took control in 2007, not 2006.

    2. The President does a lot more than veto bills

    3. The seeds for this economic crisis were not sewn in the last 2 years.

  • Yea they act like a relative died and left them no choice but to take it. Obama should've known damn good and well what he SIGNED UP for. Not like he's doing us all a favor out of the kindness of his heart. Most people still don't understand Congress controls the purse strings. And they voted Obama not knowing basic politics. So, here we are!

Yep and this is now Obama's economy and Obama's stock market crash.
