Do different brands of coffee have different levels of caffeine?
My store brand just doesn't seem to have enough to get me going.
Will I get more bang for the buck by buying a better brand and darker roast? Just need that kick start first thing in the am.

The type of coffee bean (variety of the plant) and where the coffee is grown, the way coffee beans are roasted, and the way you make your coffee all effect the caffeine content. So, I think it pays to try different brands to find which works best for you, and also make sure that your coffeemaker is working well. I can't site a source, but I suspect that coffee beans that have been ground and then sit around in storage for a long time likely lose caffeine content along with flavor.
Drip coffeemakers that are working well, and get the water hot enough, seem to provide a bit more caffeine per cup of coffee than percolators. I used to think that peculated coffee had more caffeine, but later found that isn't true.
Try different brands, different beans and blends. It can be fun to experiment a bit. Buy sample size bags when you can find them, or try different small containers of different types; I'm sure you'll find one that gives you the caffeine kick and that tastes good to you. My parents like Dunkin Donuts coffee, my mom and dad in-law like Folgers. When I buy coffee in a grocery store, I like the taste of Arabica beans, however, Robusta beans have a higher caffeine content, Robusta beans are usually less expensive and so they are used in less expensive blends.
Consider treating yourself to coffee beans from a coffee shop. I know that Starbucks is readily available, but I do not like Starbucks coffee, it tastes burnt to me because they over-roast their beans. Look for a local coffee shop or a different coffee shop chain. Barnies Coffee and Tea Company is the local chain where I buy my coffee. They sell whole beans; but they will grind the beans for you. I taste the different coffees when the shop brews them, and then buy the beans of the coffee I like. Grinding the beans in the shop (or grinding them yourself which is messy) is a good idea because fresh ground beans hold their flavor better. I think it is fun to splurge on locally roasted beans. My two current favorites are beans that come from Indonesia; the taste is yummy and there is plenty of caffeine.
I hope you'll have fun with your search!

No. Brand names are not used to indicate caffeine levels. Most coffee brands have types with reduced caffeine. The half or 50% caffeine level seems to be popular. There are times when it is sold out at the Kroger's I shop.

Yes! Starbucks has alot of caffeine. There is even a difference in decaffeinated coffee (which does have caffeine). Instead of relying on stimulants how about getting more sleep, eating properly and exercising.

I don't know really but I do notice none of the stores carry a coffee brand that has a strength beyond mild and medium. Why is that? Will look here and see if anyone can answer that too.

The dark roast ones are the best. . . also I have found Columbian coffee as the strongest......I love Yuban !!! Expensive here though, in Ohio. . so I mainly drink Folgers . . . . I put an extra scoop in the pot !!

I think you are right, Folgers is the best, the cheaper store brands just don't have the same old kick.

The new and expensive Dunkin Donuts coffee is really good. If you
try it you will want it for your morning brew.

Check the can when you buy it. It will either say weak, medium or strong strength.
