fire wall in a home can I use block?

we have extended closets into the garage now we need to put up a fire wall. can we use 8" block? I believe that is what was there

    You can, but if you live in the US, all that's required is 5/8" drywall on each side, with the garage side fire taped. That gives the required 1 hour rating. Hope this helps.

    wood tick is correct but if you don't have access to both sides to hang drywall on,2 layers on one side works too.
