How to you get rid of the longing to have a child?

I've been married for almost a year now, and a lot of my married friends are starting to have children or having their second child. I want one too. I'm not so irrational that I'm going to stop taking my birth control and make myself get pregnant. I know its not the right time in my life to start having children (I haven't even finished college yet nor enough money). This longing just makes me sad knowing that I can't have one yet. I try to get rid of it by thinking of all the bad reasons to have a child (their aren't that many) And that's not starting to work.

So basically I just want to know.. how to you remove to sadness and the longing to have a child till its time to have one.

Kudos to you for wanting to be ready for a baby! Finishing college and earning enough money will help a lot and you'll be able to provide a good life for your child. To curb that longing, try babysitting for your friends. Spend time with their kids to get your baby "fix."

So many women have the yearning to have children at all sorts of ages and points of life. It's incredibly common. You could watch your friends' babies or volunteer at a daycare to get the need to look after someone out of your system, and so you can still enjoy private time with your husband. Remind yourself that once you have a baby, you are responsible for their life for a solid 18+ years. You don't get a day off.

Plus, your boobs will get saggy, your vagina will tear, you'd poop yourself on the hospital bed, you'd throw up for three months, get heartburn, have trouble shaving yourself 'down there' or clipping your toenails. =D

Think about how well you can maintain the child? If you believe that at this point the baby will have everything he/she needs then I think maybe you should consult with your husband over having this baby. If you believe you may be having trouble keeping up with diapers and baby food along with doctor visits and much more, please think about the baby first!

Once you have the child, you can never take back the fact that the child exists, and you're screwed. It's like getting Herpes. Once you have it, you have it. Children are like germs or parasites.
