I think they shed exactly the same, it's just that the long hair is so much more, and is more noticeable. White cat hair shows up the most. Darker colors are harder to see on your clothes.

Depends on the cat. I have shorthairs and it varies a lot in shedding. Usually the ones with a short tight close-laying coat shed less then the thicker ones.

One of my shorthairs sheds much more than any of my longhairs. A good diet and regular grooming can be very helpful in controlling excessive shedding.
