It is best to get medicine from the vet to treat the problem. Do not rely on what you might buy in the store. If it is tape worms, you can probably just buy the pills from the vet. Depending on the weight of your cat, it will take about 2 pills (and they are about $5.00 each). The vet may recommend another dose in 3 weeks to make sure the problem is solved. On top of that, you will need to treat your cat for fleas. Tapeworms can come from the cat swallowing a flea when they are grooming themselves. If you don't know how to give a cat a pill, just look it up on YouTube. People have posted several videos that show you how.
But the easiest thing to do is just take your cat to the vet and let them administer the pill. They can do it much easier!

you'll have to get a prescription and the only was to do that is to get one from the vet.
You'll also have to clean your cats litter box and surrounding areas extra hard or buy a new box. Also, check your yard or any area that your cat might get to in the house for rotting animals since cats often contract worms from getting into rotting carcasses

You take it to the vet, get it put on some medication and hope it's an easily treatable kind of worm.

drench it in olive oil and tape it to some slabs of meat. the worm will crawl out the cat and into the meat. problem solved.
