I thought Hoover already tried what Obama is doing, does he think it will work this time?

Update:

The New Deal didn't work, you need a book.

WW2 got us out of the depression.

Update 2:

We are spending more money than we have ever spent before, and it does not work. ... I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises. ... I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started ... and an enormous debt, to boot."

Obama is doing EXACTLY what Hoover did. Hoover threw us INTO the depression. "The ghost of Hoover lives in the White House."

You might want to try reading a history book or something. The New Deal put money into millions of American's pockets, who would have had no chance at an income otherwise. Hoover? Do you mean George Dubya Hoover? Nobody wants to repeat his mistakes, that's for sure!

Many liberals claim the "new deal" would have worked if FDR would have been willing to spend in a deficit. I think we will finally put a nail in the coffin.

Funny you say that. Reagan and Bush tried the same thing and both failed miserably. Now, the Congressional R's want to try a 3rd time. Wow, that's smart.

And no, Obama is following FDR, not Hoover.

I think the economy is coming out of it. After Bush spent 3 trillion dollars all in giveaways to his friends money you and I have to repay, Obama is doing nothing of the kind. So far everything he has done and talked about will actually MAKE money, or at least won't cost taxpayers. As for Hoover, I think Obama is doing more of a Clinton style approach

Obama has done exactly the right thing for mortgages, let the banks and the buyers refinance at actual value, and make a profit for us taxpayers. I think he will do the right thing for banks (either let them fail or nationalize them and sell the components to well run banks so again we make a profit or at least don't lose money). Then I expect him to do a Clinton style economic plan. If you remember Clinton announced that he was going to cut taxes for the lowest 97% of citizens, and raise taxes on large business and the ultra rich, but that neither would complain because he was going to increase their imcome a lot more than their taxes. He did exactly that, and had lots of ultra rich folks and large businesses backing him even though he did increase their taxes. Your whole industry was made by his brilliant economic policy, though the first thing Bush did was kill the tech companies in his rush to eliminate small businesses.

It actually will turn a recession into a depression.

I think that Obama is actually trying to destroy the economy. If the government (ie, HIM) controls everything, he can certainly consolidate a lot of power, reward his supporters and control things for a time to come.

    __________

By the way, FDRs policies didn't exactly work, and if you think that--YOU better go buy a history book. The thing that pulled America out of the depression was WWII.

Hoover actually worsened the Depression by doing nothing.

WWII created massive government spending. Which did help the US to get out of the economic crisis of the Depression.

We don't have to go to war to spend massively. We can do it in peacetime too.

No, Obama is doing what FDR did: use the government to help people and bring America Back.

Bush is a 2-termed Hoover, except maybe less fat than Hoover but still he's a corporate puppet and fatcat.

You are incorrect. Obama is trying what FDR did, and it worked.

    Go buy a history book.
