Couple questions about new computer..?

i just got http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9180... about a month ago and its been great but just a little while ago the fan i believe made this weird grinding noise for like 5 seconds until i tapped the side and it went away and then it sounded like the fan speed increased to max for about 5 seconds then stopped.. i havent noticed a decrease in performance and the temperature is the same but im just wondering if this will lead to anything else.. thanks

Sometimes computer hardware makes weird noises. If anything was to go wrong then all you would have to do is purchase another case fan. If you are not noticing any decrease in performance and no noticeable temperature increase then you should be all set. If you are able to then I would make sure that you have your BIOS set so that if the temperature does happen to get too high then it will shut down your computer to make sure that nothing is destroyed.

If you need help doing this just give me a shout, and I will do my best to help you.

Fan speed is likely to go up and down as the temperature of the CPU goes up and down.

The cpu gets hot when it is working hard.

Weird grinding noise doesn't sound healthy though. It could be that the fan is not balanced on its spindle properly. If it keeps happening it would be wise to have it replaced or repaired under warranty.

If it only happens once in a long while it might be difficult to get anyone to diagnose the problems. Its a lot easier to track down a fault if it happens all the time!
