Doesn't anyone know the difference between Muslims and radical Muslims, and Muslim terrorists?
Just read the answers to a question about Muslims and conservatives--drawing a parallel between them. (Actually, not a bad comparison) People made a number of horrible remarks about the Muslim religion and the people who practice it. No wonder so many people in the world hate the narrow-minded, intolerant citizen of the US (especially if they mistakenly lump us all together the way we do with them).
Also, a great many Christians need to reread their Bible if they think it doesn't call for the beheading or stoning to death of fornicators, adulterers, etc. And how about a test of faith that involves killing your own child? Not too peaceful there!
I know many Americans who are Muslims, and they are just as moral and patriotic as the next person--maybe even more so. If they read what some of the people on YA had written, they would be very hurt.
Why are we so intolerant, and so very, very ignorant?
Wow! Thanks for thinking I'm young and naive....Couldn't be further from the truth!
And a real thanks for the "welcome back"--my computer died an ugly death last year, and poverty kept me from gettig a new one. The one at work couldn't be used for anything besides the company, and I just had to learn to live without my little YA exercise each day. Then I got laid off, and in a great act of compassion, my ex-husband's new wife bought and sent me a brand new one. Hence: I'm Back (again!)

It's very sad to see so many people misinformed about other cultures. These are the same people who get their information from news sources with agendas that are not aligned with those of the American people.
To the person below me: Those people dancing in the streets after 911 turned out to be Israeli's dressed as arabs. You heard the original news, but never heard the follow up : Here take your pick of thousands of sources including conservative ones as to the full story:

Joey's Back, I hadn't seen you around for some time. It's really good to see you again. ;o)
Also to Neurotic down below:
Just because you haven't personally met a muslim to condemn 911 doesn't mean there aren't millions of them. You can choose from hundreds of public statements, blogs and news releases condemning violence with 93% of Muslims world-wide denouncing the 911 attacks (4th search result below):

I don't know that Islam should be illegal. If a person feels that they have to kill others that don't believe in Islam, or force others to convert, or make people pay a fee in order to have protection from Islam, that is the issue to be dealt with. Any religion needs to adhere to the laws of the country that they live in or go about having laws changed using the governments proceedures. This is what we need to continue to hold on to in this country. The biggest difference in a "radical" Christian or Muslim is disturbing. The radical Christan is distorting the Bible in there cause. the "radical" Muslim is actually following the literal meaning of the Quran. Read it and you'll agree.

I believe in the the concept of what you are saying but you display a naivety not unusual for Americans, especially young ones. The Bible you quote is the old testament shared by Judaism, Christianity and Islam. I know many Muslims in their own Islamic country and agree Islam, if practiced by true believers in accordance with teachings of the Koran, is very beautiful.
The problem is Islam does not have a Central Authority to vet spiritual leaders. Hence anyone who seems to espouse knowledge may proclaim themselves as an authority.
When you travel more you may understand what I say. I've lived in their environment for 30+ years so feel somewhat vindicated in my opinions.

I realize not all Muslims are terrorists, but it's hard to remember that when you consider the celebrations in the streets throughout all of the Middle East following Sept. 11. All those peace loving people were dancing and laughing about several thousand dead people.
Quote: "Also, a great many Christians need to reread their Bible if they think it doesn't call for the beheading or stoning to death of fornicators, adulterers, etc" True, but that was written several thousand years ago and is no longer carried out. Christianity has entered the modern age and renounced Inquisition style atrocities.
Ask yourself two questions. When's the last time you heard about or saw a video of a Christian cutting off someone's head on video because they belonged to another religion or sentenced a girl to be stoned to death for leaving her house without a male escort or sentenced a woman to gang rape for having an affair? Then ask yourself the same question about Muslims.
They may not all strap bombs to themselves to blow up Jewish children, but the vast majority are happy when someone does it.

When you talk about hate you should first understand it, you don't. I guess we are fortunate that Christians aren't running around blowing up people in their own churches, a sickly comparison I might add. You madam, or whatever you are, would not survive in cultures so intolerant of your existence.
I can't speak for whatever evil you feel someone has labeled the peaceful people of islam here in the US as I have never seen it and do not believe it exists. I feel sorry for those that may have been manipulated by appearances of the peaceful people of Islam.
You have no idea what you are talking about!

probably the same reason that lots of people in other countries think all americans are super rich, immoral, fat, lazy, & rude - we all have stereotypes. it seems to me that stereotypes usually come from lack of information or personal knowledge about another group of people. most americans get their information from mass media, which doesn't go out of its way to highlight peace loving people of any faith. so we really only hear about the extremists & terrorists

I think you need to reread the bible, the old testament was given to the jewish nation and no one else, Jesus took that old law to the cross and brought in the new testament, so no be headings by christians or killing people because they don't believe the way you do.

It's pretty pitiful, I agree.. especially all these attacks on Islam as a religion of violence and war coming from the people who belong to a Church (or line of thought anyway, if they are Protestant) that is responsible for the Inquisition and the Crusades

Do you really think it is a good idea to help them realize that they think alike even though they have different faiths?

I don't like radicals of any stripe whether jew, christian or muslim. To me a radical is a radical and therefore there is no difference.
