actually believe that their senators and congresspeople care about them and their lives, health and tax increases. Republicans let our jobs go overseas, our boys and girls go overseas to fight an unjust war, our "working man safety measures" (pensions, insurance, even our savings accounts--in corrupt banks) lapse and be forgotten--all to benefit the heads of huge corporations who already have more money than the Creator--NOT to benefit their constituents. What are these regular citizens thinking when they laud and honor and speak up for these Reps?

While I DO like to make my opinion known, and I DO like a lively political debate, I really had hoped to see some varying points of view with some real backup. All I usually see is petty bickering and name-calling.

On second thought, though, that's all the "real" politicians seem capable of these days. Where are the bright and articulate people who care about the other people in this country? Not running for office, I see!

Anyway....is there intelligent political discourse anywhere?

...have no idea what either means? They are NOT interchangeable--in fact, you'd be hard-presses to be a Nazi-Communist (huh?). And, can't you think of some other "scary" words to try to turn people away from doing what's right? Those words are getting really boring and have lost all meaning.

....hasn't kept any of his promises? Does this tell you the same thing about them that it tells me: That nothing the man says or does would please them, that they just don't like him, and that they wish someone else was President???

Whatever happened to good reporting? Who pays the media to keep up this trash? Real issues are obfuscated, and we all drool over this tempest in a teapot as if our very lives depended on it. Why are we, as a country, so hung up on trivia? Could it be because our educational system is so bad? Are we that dumbed-down?

Racism and profiling are very real issues, but this Cambridge mess has more to do with frayed nerves and tired travelers, with stuck doors.

Who pays the media for obfuscating the real issues like this? Whatever happened to good news reporting?

It seems this term is bandied about in such a loosey-goosey way that the users can't possibly know what is actually meant by the words.

Last night I had a picture on "Answers". This morning I have the old avatar. When I checked my profile info, the option to choose my 360 profile pic as my YA pic was no longer showing. Why the change?

...racists, homophobes, misogynists, very naive children, dirty-mouthed paranoid, fascist, name-calling, ignorant people these days???

Last year my computer died; when I left YA there were a few knuckleheads, but most everyone could ask a pretty good question, or defend their chosen candidate with humor and wisdom. A year later...I'm back online, and all I read is garbage about our new President, "monkeys", "African Americans NEED illegals,' socialism is the enemy, Obama is the enemy, "Hussein", communism is the same as socialism, Pelosi is a "dog" (and much, much worse things!), etc. etc. What is going on? Where are the "censors" who used to be everywhere? Doesn't anyone report all this nastiness anymore?

Just read the answers to a question about Muslims and conservatives--drawing a parallel between them. (Actually, not a bad comparison) People made a number of horrible remarks about the Muslim religion and the people who practice it. No wonder so many people in the world hate the narrow-minded, intolerant citizen of the US (especially if they mistakenly lump us all together the way we do with them).

Also, a great many Christians need to reread their Bible if they think it doesn't call for the beheading or stoning to death of fornicators, adulterers, etc. And how about a test of faith that involves killing your own child? Not too peaceful there!

I know many Americans who are Muslims, and they are just as moral and patriotic as the next person--maybe even more so. If they read what some of the people on YA had written, they would be very hurt.

Why are we so intolerant, and so very, very ignorant?

any effects of being Indian being raised in Louisiana. Give me a break. His own party members talk about him behind his back, and they are blatantly using him now as "their" token minority person. And he has NONE of the charm, charisma, speaking ability, brains of Obama!

From the answers I got to my "socialism" question, it seems that many do not. The only place communism ever worked was in convents and monasteries. Socialism works well in many countries with democratically elected officials. Socialized medicine works well in many other countries.

And before you start screaming about Obama and the budget, let me tell you: We DO NOT have socialism in this country. Anyone who thinks we do is seriously overreacting!

Give stimulus a chance. Give change a chance. Give the stock market a chance. Why try to predict what things will be like 4 years from now? (Heck, the world could end tomorrow....)

If Obama and the Dems are wrong, we'll see. If they're right, we'll see. At the present time, it's out of our hands anyway. Maybe y'all need to "chillax" a bit. Or, if you're really upset, email your elected representatives and tell them so. Pick a candidate for mayor or state Congress in your area, and work for him/her. Just quityer_itchin". Your candidate lost--by a lot! People wanted change from Bush. S, now we work hard, pray, and keep our eyes open.

In a recent post, college profs were accused of being liberals (oh, the horror...), and of essentially not being bright enough or motivated enough to get a "real" (ie. megabucks) job. Then, in another question, the conservatives came back with: anyone who works hard and gets a good education can "make it" (ie. not be "poor"). Well, explain to me, then, who provides this education? (Faux Snooze??)

...who did not even think to question if the man was a racist or if he would "put his own people first"? Why should this candidate be any different?

...and, guess what? He's as much white as he is Black!!! DUH!!!
