Anyone have this problem too?

I was using the trial version of AVG (the version with the identity protection, firewall, and anti-virus) to see if I wanted to get a subscription for it. The first night I had it, everything worked fine, no problems at all. The next day I have problems with internet explorer working. I figure its just because the lap top is still new and that it will work itself out in the long run. Well I have even more problems with it today. So when I got home I un-installed everything AVG and everything worked perfectly. I re-install just the anti-virus and I get the same problems. I manage to download Mozilla Firefox and start using it, it works just as good as IE did when I first got my lap top.

Is AVG just not compatible with IE? Has anybody else had this problem too?

Update:

Will any problems be created if I just use Firefox and forget that I have IE installed on my computer?

Update 2:

I don't want anybody telling me to switch to Norton anti-virus or McAfee anti-virus or any other anti-virus program. I like AVG, I'm happy with it, and am not interested in getting another unless I absolutely have too. Also, I don't mind using Firefox.

Actually Firefox is better than IE. You must use firefox. No problems would be there.

AVG "thinks" it is compatible with Internet Explorer. It installs pieces of itself into Internet Explorer to allow it to scan web traffic and look for phishing attacks. It is not a very well written program, and worse, it is not a very good antivirus program.

When I arrived at my company two years ago they were using a centralized AVG install to protect all of the computers. When I switched everyone over to Kaspersky, I found that 9 of our 15 computers had multiple viruses on them. Great, huh?

I would uninstall AVG and never touch it again.

Another popular antivirus is Avast. You can download the home edition for free from here:

    http://avast.com/

It's under the "free software" section.

Avast has a better virus detection engine, and is nicer to your computer. You have to register it for it to work for longer than 60 days, but it's easy. They just want your name and email address and they email you a key that works for 14 months. After that, you just ask them for another key, still free, and they don't email you any junk. If you get this one, you may want to turn the sounds off, they are slightly annoying.

Better still is to get a paid-for product. Personally I like Kaspersky, but Nod32 by Eset is good too. McAfee has improved greatly in the last year or so, to the point where I would actually recommend it. Norton is a kludge, and has been for years. Avoid it.

    Response to additional comments:

Firefox is perfectly fine. It recently surpassed Internet Explorer as the most used web browser. I almost never use Internet Explorer.

AVG should work fine with IE and for many people it does. Also, many people have problems with it and AVG (inadvertently) create problems:

I'm glad you're happy with it but be aware that it isn't the best AV program and the firewall is pretty poor (scroll down list to bottom)
