How have you come up with baby names?
I know this might sound dumb, but I have no clue what to name my baby boy, due in June. We go through baby name books, at least 5 or 6 big ones and a few smaller ones too. I've looked through traditional names, unique names, names that come from the bible or famous literature or whatever. But nothing seems right for my baby.
I've found names I sort of like, but nothing that stands out and says to me, this is the name for my baby. There is always something that just doesn't feel right about it.
Has anyone else felt that way? How did you come up with the name for your baby or at least a list of names that you were excited about?
I have 3 kids and I named them all myself and it seemed so easy then.
Any advice? I don't really want suggestions for names as much as tips on choosing one.
Thanks.

this happend to us when we tried to find a name for a 3rd baby. It was tough!!
We had already used our favourite girl and boy name so picking another boy name was really hard.
In the end i realised i was putting too much pressure on it and over thinking everyname I heard so i completely stopped actively 'looking' for names and listening to other peoples suggestions.
When i did read a name in a magazine or book or heard something on the TV, i would just write down the ones that really struck me as being a possibility.
We had the list on the fridge and when i would look over the list i would just cross off and add names as i went. In the end we had 7 names on our list when i went into labour so the list came with us to the hospital!
While i was in labour myself, my husband and my best friend who was with us in the room, took out the list and went over it one last time and culled it down to 3 names.
When he was born we looked at him and picked one of those. Sometimes i still wonder if we picked the right one but i think babies grow into their names no matter what you call them.
So i think you should stop putting so much emphasis on it and just take it as it comes. Don't panic if you don't find THE ONE before s/he is born, it will come to you eventually!
good luck

I did as you did - going through book after book and name lists online, too. I did make lists of names I liked, but it was further complicated by a father that had totally different tastes than I did.
In the end, we had a compromise of a first name that I made up (or I thought I made it up 'cause it wasn't in any books or websites until later in the pregnancy I finally did find it in one book) and a middle name that the father liked and I thought was too cute to not pair up with the first name I had chosen.
Although, I had a list of back-up names and wouldn't tell anyone which one I had already decided on in my mind. I kept saying I wanted to see my baby before I named her (and partially, I did want to see her before definitely deciding on a name, but partially I already felt the name fit her before she was born). Plus, I knew everyone would have their own opinion about the made-up name and probably hate it so I didn't want to hear it. It was my baby, not theirs.
The name that caused all the controversy? Tigressa. My favorite animal is the Tiger. Tigress is the female version of Tiger, but I wanted it a bit girlier so tossed on the A at the end. But I also knew if she did come out tomboyish, she could use the nickname Tiger to be more masculine.
So in my case, I took my favorite animal as inspiration. I also considered the name Pandia because I love panda bears, too. The clincher was the fact that my baby was so active in the womb - I said to myself, yep... she's my little tiger alright.
So anyway... try going with sounds you like and making up your own name if you're not afraid of the complaints you may get. Rub your belly, saying the name, see if he reacts.
Maybe you'll think I'm nuts like most people do, but I love the name I ended up givng my little girl. Besides, it's not that far off from the common Vanessa or Melissa so I don't really see what all the fuss is about. *shrugs*

Here is what we did. We both went through baby name books and each made a list of the names we liked. Then each day we planned to veto a name from the other person's list until there was just one name left on each person's list. Then we planned to use both names and flip or coin or see if we could decide which would be first and which would be middle name. However, my wife vetoed all the names on my list except one on the 2nd day and we just went with what she wanted for first name and my only non vetoed choice as middle.
Another alternative would be to wait until after the child is born. We do that with our horses and donkeys. Sometimes it helps to see the baby before you choose a name. You don't have to choose a name before birth. Hope that helps. =)

I thought of names that I liked that are not as common today as they were years ago. I liked the "smart" sounding names. People usually fit their names somehow. Something that sounds regal, or a cut above the rest. I wanted to name my child something with a little personality, I didn't want them to have the same name that ten other people in their class have, nor did I want to just make a name up which seems common today. I also wanted my children to carry on something from the family, so for their middle names I took them after mine and their fathers, but if you don;t like those for middle names, think about their aunts, or uncles or grandparents. If nothing sounds good with the name you pick out, then go for something with good sounding initials to it like R.J. or E.T. or J.R. whatever sounds catchy to you. Choosing your baby's name is not an easy task, it is something that they will have forever, so pick a name that you like.

Well for my daughter Bellamy, I saw her name in a magazine when I was 3 months pregnant and held on to it. I had Adara Noelle picked out as an alternative, but when I saw her she was definitely a Bellamy and 6 yrs later I laugh at the thought of my tomboy roughhousing daughter ever being named Adara.
For the next one, we have Sevin Kai picked out for a boy. Daddy's name is Svein and he loves the name Seven, so I just used the letters in his name instead. Kai is one of my favorite names.
If its a girl, I will most likely go with Aubrey or Delaney. I like very low key yet feminine girls names.

i does no longer advise identifying on one in all those available names like the celebrities do like coco and apple. i might carry on with some thing unique, yet some thing it truly is unique and suits the toddler, and his/ her character. for women, i in my view like the call Anysia (Ann-i-sh-a). I actual have in effortless terms met one woman with this call, and that i think of that its truly surprisingly! For boys, there are actually not fairly some scotts or tom's available. i think of which you will desire to easily bypass to Borders or Barnes and Noble and merely purchase a toddler e book. there are fairly some diverse names in that e book- some that i might in no way have even theory-approximately! Plus, in a e book you additionally can see the meanings of the call, and the place it got here from. yet another plus is which you would be able to spotlight the names which you like and are available lower back to them. good luck!
