Spanish- English ...jugar a?

How would you translate the following into English : "El niño juega a que te habla por telefono".

"The child pretends he talks to you on the phone"?

    I would not use the word pretends in the sentence b/c the word used in the sentence in spanish (juega) means play.

    ** The child plays on the phone as if he is talking to you.

    I think it would be better "The child plays pretending he talks to you on the phone"
