    It is given that there are 800 total tickets and that the number of full price tickets sold was 480, so if we say that the number of student tickets is T then we can say

    480 + T = 800 .

    From this we can solve for T.

    The gate receipt will be the price of full price tickets times the number of full price tickets sold, plus the price of student tickets times the number of student tickets sold. It is given that the cost of a full price ticket is 3, so if P is the price of a student ticket, then we can say

    (3)(480) + T*P = 2080 .

    Since we should already know the value of T, we can simply solve this equation for P, and doing this will tell us the cost of a student ticket.

    480 x 3$ = 1440$

    2080$ - 1440$ = 640$

    800 - 480 = 320

    640$ / 320 = 2$

    the student ticket cost =( 2080-3*480 )/ (800-480) =2

    Total number of tickets = 800

    Number of full-price tickets = 480

    Number of student tickets = 800 - 480 = 320

    x = price of a student ticket

    480(3) + 320(x) = 2080

    1440 + 320x = 2080

    Get rid of the 1440 by subtracting it from both sides.

    1440-1440 + 320x = 2080-1440

    320x = 640

    Get rid of the 320 by dividing it out of both sides.

    320x/320 = 640/320

    x=2

    Check your work by plugging in x=2 into the original equation.

    480(3) + 320(2) = 2080

    they cost $2

    yu do this

    take 480 times 3 to get 1440

    then take 800-480 to get 320=tickets left

    then take 2080-1440=640 which equals money left

    then 640/320 to get 2 which is price for student ticket
