Would everyone please stop doing others' homework?

You are not really helping them and you are indicating your disdain for education. People wanting others to do their work are symptomatic of a lack of morals (like no honesty) in our society. Individual effort, not hand outs improve people. Do you agree or disagree and why?

i have a love/hate relationship with this issue. some days i'm mean and sarcastic and filled with disdain at these people who a) too lazy to just do the damn work themselves b) ask complete strangers to help them out...which is basically putting the necessary info into google. it's utterely ridiculous. but then there are days where i feel like that attitude is snobbish and ungenerous and combine that with a dash of ego and you've got yourself the main reason why some people drop out of school. so lately, i chew folks out and then give them a path. possibly a little too well defined path but a path nonetheless, telling them the answer they seek is somewhere along here and you might just be a better person for seeking it out instead of asking someone to give it you. i think giving up on someone is disturbing, statistics aside. besides being a great communicator, theatre has given a lot of kids an opportunity to touch something that they wouldn't normally be given an opportunity to touch...whether it's seeing shakepseare come to life in front of them when the language is so daunting or they realize that there is more to theatre than what anyone can merely see. i've seen theatre do **** to kids and adults that years of psychology could never even touch....and it's all because one person said, yeah, i know the kid/adult is an asshole, but i think they would enjoy this. i feel the parallel can be made with education....i could have had multiple teachers give up on me despite me having an abundance of morals, i dont think that has anything to do with morals and it's a little hurtful, i think it has something to do with being properly motivated to educate. or share a love of something. those great educators that despite their students' lack of motivation, lack of interest, lack of whatever, can make a kid realize one small element of the magic they already know are to be cherished.

i hate saying all that as i personally hate people who do the homework thing on here but...i DO believe in theatre. and i want people to see the magic like i do. so i give them a path (with some slightly bitter remarks preceeding it of course...can't let 'em get off to easy) and some mediocre advice on how to approach it next time. but laziness and apathy are very much apart of our society, most assuredly with students dealing with homework in theatre when they have zero tolerance for it to begin with.

If you don't need your laptop/computer turn it off. If you need it for typing disconnect from the internet. Put on some music in the background or in your headphones while doing homework (It doesn't work for everyone but it keeps me focused). Make a daily schedule/planner and check off each item you complete. Turn off or put your cell phone on silent and turn off the TV.

I agree with you but what you see, is probably just the tip of the iceberg. These teens have been raised by TV and video games they are not so used to a pencil or a pen. Problem is, they want to be ignorant their whole life and this system enables them to be. At last, if they don't get a degree, or a job, they will just reproduce and live of the taxes that you and I pay. Trust me, I know more than one family that lives like that, parents are young and home all day, Why would they get a job when they can get a check every month for every child they have?

In this country we need more motivation to learn. A reason to love school and to read.

Asking for help in an online forum is fine - good, even. But then there are the questions that show the asker obviously intends to let others think for them. (Especially when the same question has been asked and answered multiple times before and they cannot be asked even to look in the resolved questions section.) In those cases, I like to tell them first that I realize what they are doing. Then I try to give them just enough of an answer that they might actually be interested in the topic, and if not, at least they might learn a little from me. But I do like to avoid giving them enough to complete their assignment without further thought.

My hope is that if enough enthusiastic and intelligent people respond directly to them, it may ignite even the tiniest of sparks. Or at least make them want to hang out with theatre folks long enough for us to rub off on them. :-)

As a teacher, I wholeheartedly agree. What is the purpose of pursuing an education if one does not want to EARN it? I have never, ever asked someone to do my homework; I have never cheated. Think about it, if a person cheats his/her way through the educational system, is it really going to help in that person's chosen profession? No, the person will not be on the competitive edge, will not have the morals and ethics of a professional, and eventually will fail. Earn the achievement or don't pursue it. That's my opinion on the matter.

I could not agree with you more!

Being in high school, I face these situations a lot. I do the work, put my time and effort into it, and someone asks to copy it. On one hand I like to help out, and be nice. But on the other hand- I did the work! And if I let them copy, they get the answers without a sweat and without having to do any work. I think it's wrong and I try not to let anyone copy.

If people let others copy, people who copy learn to depend on others and don't learn anything!

I totally understand, comprehend and agree. While it is a free country the fact that you can do something does not mean you SHOULD do it. My daughter is an honor student in the international baccalaureate program (she has a 4.0) and there are other kids in her class who are higher in class ranking than her-several of them are known cheaters. They talk about cheating...they just have not been caught...it is frustrating for her...she does her own work and these kids get ahead by cheating...the sad thing is those weaker willed kids who allow them to cheat...not only are they hurting themselves, they hurt other hard working students by helping them cheat.

I do my own homework as well, and I hate cheating. I had a kid in my grade who came in a day late, and the teacher handed her an outline and told her to get it done by the next day. She proceeded to shout across the room "Amanda, can I borrow your outline". Needless to say, she got a zero. I hate it, it just breeds more stupidity.
