I can be blunt and seem cruel because I have a mechanical manner when it comes to common sense. I have a Master's in English Writing and a Bachelor's in Theatre Arts. I am an actress, director, writer at heart and everything else comes after. People always came to me about their dilemmas since I was a youngster. I was always told I should be a counselor; however, my "bedside" manner is a bit lacking. I am currently an adjunct faculty member who is on the road to pursuing a PhD. I found Answers, or maybe it found me, and I have been slightly hooked ever since.

  • Who exactly is in the wrong here? A sociological study -?

A man is pulling his car around to pick up his disabled fiance at the entrance of a store. A young woman from across the crossing (by where the cars park, not near the entrance) pushes her cart forcefully to where the carts are corralled inside the actual building. This causes the man to have to stop his car or it will be hit by said cart. He curses at her, and drives on up to the entrance to get his fiance. The young woman proceeds to walk up and go off about being cursed at and refuses to apologize for her previous inconsiderate action of almost hitting his car, her excuse being that she didn't hit it, so what does it matter, and she was cold so she shouldn't be expected to walk it to a corral by her car or walk it to the corral in the building. When she doesn't back down and keeps running her mouth, she is told by the man to walk away and when she doesn't the disabled fiance proceeds to threaten her as well. It almost becomes an altercation, but the man keeps his fiance off the young woman and some stranger intervenes with the young woman, telling her just to apologize (which is what the inflamed couple wanted in the first place). As the couple pulled away, the girl is heard still insisting there is no reason to apologize.

No one hurt anyone and nothing else happened, but I'm interested in knowing some opinions. I'm of the opinion that people like this young woman are being raised not to know right from wrong and have no manners at all. Why else would she not understand that all she had to do was apologize? The girl was clearly in the presence of elders as well, where were her manners? I think the couple definitely over-reacted, but were they wrong to be upset and demand an apology from the girl?

I'm just asking this from a sociological perspective, so please, be honest. I want to see, especially, what the age factor does with responses. If you would, please be clear on your age when you reply. In the interest of research, thanks in advance for complete honesty and straight-forwardness.

  • I think someone is tapping our LAN connection?

We have new neighbors and recently noticed a spike in our usage that resulted in our cable modem and router crashing one or more times a day. I figured out pretty quick that we were probably being piggy-backed and we were, so I went in and overrode the factory defaults and set an admin password and figured everything would be ok. However, a week later, similar symptoms cropped up and I noticed that we had an unknown LAN visitor on our DHCP. I would like to find a way to permanently block this mule from access, do I just go static? Will having my cable company come check for any tapping or splitting do any good at all or should I just go static and leave it at that? Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

  • What do you think of my experimental recipe?

This is a poor man's offshoot of the Zombie cocktail (ironically, I could not get my hands on any Triple Sec, who'da thunk?)

I have what I used in parentheses.

1 oz Light rum (Bacardi Silver)

1 oz Dark rum (Bacardi Gold)

    1/2 oz Grenadine (Rose's Grenadine)

1/2 oz Triple Sec (I used diet Pepsi and lemon juice - yeah I know)

    1 oz Brandy (E&J Brandy)

2 oz lime juice (I used 1 oz conc. lemon juice)

2 oz sour mix (I used 1/2 oz conc. lemon juice mixed with a couple tblsp of Splenda)

Mix them in shaker with ice and then top with splash of rum (Hmm, maybe I should have done that, I mixed them and put a splash of diet pepsi and brandy on top).

It is bittersweet, but I like it. Anyone give it a try? How about tips to improve it? I'm all ears.

Oh, I'm thinking of calling it "Hell on Earth" (not sure if that is taken).

  • Scared to eat my steak and eggs?

I was thawing my steak and the water (not exactly clean, mind you) got into the packaging. The steak was thawed, of course, some of it had brown tint and it was sopping wet. I broiled it way past the recommended time (its burnt basically) hoping that will kill the bad bacteria - is it safe to eat?? Also, I left eggs out for 3 days (on a warm vcr! hard to explain) and tested them in water (they all stayed at the bottom), but are they safe to use? I know, I'm an idiot...(and I don't know how to cook...)

  • Cat had a growth removed from her right hip...?

My cat is seven years old and I had found an ulcerated growth about the size of a golf ball on her right back leg. I took her to the vet and she had surgery this morning. I noticed with growing alarm that the workers were disorganized (they didn't even have her scheduled). When I got her back, there were no aftercare instructions (doc was gone) and the antibiotic I paid for was not provided. I will get on their case tomorrow, in the meantime, what are some general aftercare instructions for this type of surgery? I've looked everywhere, can't find specifics at all. Do I leave her in a small room tonight (like bathroom) with box and water? Do I leave her in kennel? She already tried jumping around in room and went crazy in kennel, so is in bathroom, isolated, at moment. Please help. I WILL be changing vets after this.

  • Brokenhearted and Scared?

My cat has been inside for 3 years now. He is neutered and has been fearful of the outside environment. I started a new job that requires me to be away from home for 6-12 hours, 6 days a week. I don't have much time at all right now. He gets fed and I love on him, but lately he has become quite demanding and taken to hiding a lot when I am gone. Tonight, i was carrying in groceries and he tried to dart out the door. He has never done this before! He has poked his nose out, usually side by side with his older sister cat, but the few times that has happened I have caught them and they weren't too obligated to getting outside. This time, he seems almost determined. I love him so very dearly and fear losing him, I even had a dream a week ago that this very thing happened with a bad ending. He is like my child, I don't know if I can handle him running away. My brother lives with us, and he has two dogs. We are a happy "family", not sure why my cat wants to leave me?

  • My cat is healthy and hiding??

Hi, three days ago I came home from my new job on lunch break and couldn't find my male 2-year-old cat (I have two cats). I ended up finding him hiding in the bathroom closet which is two rooms down from my bedroom (he usually frequents kitchen, living room, and bedroom). He is a hider, but usually only if loud noises. I couldn't coax him out. He didn't eat or drink or use box all day. He didn't sleep with me (he always does). He now ventures to my room maybe once in the evening when I get home and uses box, but remains in bathroom and pantry areas through rest of day. I moved his food and water to pantry and he is eating and drinking just fine. He is loving, talks to me, is quite social when I'm in the bathroom/kitchen areas. In my room, he uses box, gets to my door, looks up towards the ceiling like he sees a ghost and darts off like he's scared to death every single time. Any ideas??? I'm very worried and if weekend doesn't fix, he goes to vet anyway.

  • Subcontractor woes?

My brother's company made the employees subcontractors, making them responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and some other things. The insurance was too costly so the workers refused to insure. They worked them anyway, but paychecks are now sporadic, sparse, and cut. Today, the employer refused to pay the workers unless they each cough up 300 dollars for insurance by 3 pm today, but none of the workers have insurance policies. Is this legal and is there anything that can be done about it?
