What does this mean? (no girl talk or gossip stuff!)?
"Write a one-paragraph response based on your outside reading about the novel and/or author. What does the author value in his/her writing and how do you know this? Or what do others see as a questionable and/or valuable about the novel?"
&
"Compare the way the current author or poet's portrayal of subject matter relate to one of our previous work(s). Are there similarities in author's methods, choice of time period, setting, characterization and writing styles?"
please and thanks?!

Wow...this could become a full-fledged essay, but you are asked to write one paragraph--so precision is of the essance.
The instructions mean...
1. Write one paragraph
2. Your paragraph should be something you write based on what you have read ABOUT the author or book. In other words, google the novel title, and google the author name, and read on Wikipedia what the article has to say.
3. Based on what you have read in OTHER sources, what kind of conclusions can you draw about what the author thinks about his/her own writing. How do you know this--in other words, what clues are given that the author is proud of the work or feels that he or she missed the mark.
4. Based on what you have read in OTHER sources, how do other people feel about the novel and the author's writing--good and bad.
AND
How is this current book similar to something else that you read. For this question focus on the authors' (the two of them) styles of writing and creating setting , plot, etc. Your focus is not on the two pieces of literature--it is on similarities that you can identify in the authors' styles as they relate to several criteria.

1) Read up on what other people have to say about the novel and/or author. What do they say the author values in his/her writing, or what do they themselves find valuable?
2) Compare this author or poet to one you've discussed before. Probably with the same conflicts or types of characters. How does each author handle the situation, compare and contrast.
