Does anyone know what "trolls" are?

Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.

Guy: "I just found the coolest ninja pencil in existence."

Other Guy: "I just found the most retarded thread in existence."

Since you're saying you're new to this I assume you're talking about yahoo answers, right? What they mean by trolls here is the people who try to get someone's account removed. If you take a look at the leaderboard, you'll notice that yahoo answerers that are at the top usually have thier Q&A private, and you're not allowed to IM or e-mail them or even add them to your contacts. That's because trolls are trying to take them down, if they had access to their Q&A they would start reporting them, they also make multiple accounts for that purpose. They may also send hate messages, give mean answers, leave mean comments. They are jealous people that don't have a life.

A troll is someone who posts messages designed to annoy people into responding with angry remarks - usually the goal is to flood the forum with a flame war.

In Michigan, a troll is a person who lives in lower Michigan...and a Yooper is one who lives in Upper Michigan......The term troll comes from the fact that Mackinac Bridge seperates the two parts of michigan...hence the term troll for michigan...completly unrelated...but maybe someone learned something today from this....

Yes. Yes they do. Trolls hide under metaphorical "bridges" and come out to tease and taunt regular site members.
