Button's surprise in Barcelona: Has Brawn built a winning machine yet again?

1:19.1 in Barcelona is no gimmick even if running on vapor. Faster than the Ferrari by a second, has Brawn built a miracle?

Update:

I can live with a few BGP wins, Julian G. Button is at best in the same league as the top names out there, so if he wins, his machine has a fair share in it. I'd always respect engineering ingenuity, besides the car ain't bad in aesthetics now that the hideous dumbo ears are gone.

Foxhound, if the times meant nothing they wouldn't be testing now. Agreed, there would be a few unexpected events, but the pre-season testing results are a good pointers for the pecking order. (If you are interested in aviation, its a coincidence that you and I have picked IDs that is the reporting name for the same aircraft. Just that I chose the fictional name and you have the real name!)

It's entirely possible. This is the first 100% Brawn car for the team, and it looks like it might be a new Ligier JS11...just plain fast, and nobody knows quite how, or why...hopefully the development of this car will be better than it was for the Ligier though.

I think that the team was also a bit handicapped last year by the Honda engine (not to say that the chassis was much use either, but an extra 60bhp would have made a difference), and the switch to Mercedes has let them show their car in the best possible light.

It seems Ross Brawn wasn't kidding last year when he said that the Honda (as it was then) would be a top 3 car this year! They seem to have got it right straight away... imagine what they could do with more testing behind them!?! I don't think it's that surprising really, the surprise is that they were fast straight away more than anything else!

The car has some intricate details, but also some very clean lines, as opposed to some other teams who have gone very aggressive as they feel that this will provide that extra edge. Brawn seem to have just got on with it, developing the car at the factory and refining every last detail.

The nose is considerably more developed than all the others except maybe the RBR/STR ones, and Ross Brawn has said that they have found a way to recover 80% of the downforce that was supposed to have been taken away with the new regulations.

They haven't had any major reliability issues yet either! One gearbox problem for Rubens on Tuesday and then they were back out again, setting consistenly fast times!

Button has been faster than Rubens all week too, I think he's going to reassert himself at the sharp end of the grid this year in a very explosive way!!

I don't think that anybpdy should be getting too excited yet.

Due to it being a year of brand new regulations and cars, and not knowing what cars are on what set-ups or fuel loads it is not possible to know how well thay are actually doing.

Saying that, Barrichello repeated Button's success with fastest time today, and Brawn was saying that it was a good car this year.

With it being a season of brand new cars, it is entirely possible that an outsider can jump to the top, especially with two highly experienced and talented drivers.

Only the team know how well they are really doing.

We won't know anything until Melbourne Qualifying.

as quickly as greater, Madridistas act like a gaggle of idiots. this may well be real for some league video games yet remember UCL: Barca 2-2 Milan Milan 2-3 Barca. Barca 2-0 Plzen Plzen 0-4 Barca and my well-known Bate 0.5 Barca Barca 4-0 Bate. additionally, remember Elclasicos of 2011 and 12? 2-0 away, a million-a million abode and 2-a million away 2-2 abode and shall we no longer forget approximately the away 3-a million. you're in basic terms reminding us of ur mess united statesafter we expect of roughly the thank you to very own you once you ask stupid questions. playstation i became into gonna thd Greenday fan's remark yet then I took an arrow to the knee. Ehm, I mean yet I had mercy on him on the grounds that he had such truly some!

I'd always thought the old Honda Team had talent in Button & Barichello, but the car was subpar and let them down last two seasons. With Brawn's new direction, I hope that they will get on track again. After all, they were 4th 2 seasons ago, surely they can do it again?

Alonso has already said that they look pretty fast and that their speed is for real. He was right about BMW during last year's pre-season testing and I think that he may well be right about Brawn GP this year.

It would be nice to see Brawn GP win races. I don't think his relationship with Ferrari will change, he is competing fairly with them. It's a completely different story with Nigel Stepney.

Remember Brawn did not build this. Honda made this car. they scratched the 2008 season and decided to focus everything on 09. The car was in development many months before the others. Shame Honda did not wait till the end of 09 to pull out... they have sold a winning team.

It looks like they've come up with something special. There hasn't been such a surprising car in pre-season since...well, rosbif said that one already.

Testing times are important at this stage of the season, especially when you massacre the pole time from the same circuit the year before...

the lack of sponsor decals must be making the car very light... i guess those thing must be pretty heavy... lol

seriously though... if you remember a few years back... Prost GP with Jean Alesi were blowing away the competetion in pre-season testing... the reason ... they were running the cars without ballast...in a desperate effort to to make themselves look competetive and attract sponsors...

no disrespect to Ross Brawn who i think is a genius and to Button and Barrichello whom i rate very highly... but there is just no way for a team who started really late in their pre-season testing to come out like that...

there is no magic " formula " in Formula 1...

I really hope so, Jens has forsaken many great race drives over the last few years to stick by his team. I'd love to see them go ahead of Ferrari, show them what they're missing! (Sorry I know you're a Ferrari fan).

Jenson's silky smooth driving could just do the trick this year if there is a wet/dry combination race.
