I would go with the airline that has the cheapest price and the most convenient flight time. Another factor is whether or not there are any connections. If you can get a non-stop flight, that would be best. Also are you a frequent flier? If you are, then choose the airline that you are have a frequent flier account with. Just remember that many airlines are in alliances so if you have a Northwest Airlines frequent flier account, I would choose Delta.
Out of the 3 airlines mentioned, Continental has the lowest complaint rate.

I've only flew Airtran, so I don't know any of these other airlines. My mom was flown Continental and I have a cousin that has flown on Delta. I've heard alot of good things about Delta, and I've heard that they really care for their customers. Continental flies alot of those prop-jets that can only seat like 30-50 passengers. I hate smaller planes, I gotta be on a Boeing. In my opinion, Boeing 737's, 757's, 767's are more reliable than those prop-jets. Whenever you hear of a plane crash, it's always one of those prop-jets crashing.
It's up to you, look at the prices and see who has the most convenient fares and flight schedules.

not that the other ones are not / i like basically all American Airlines but i think Delta it's really good

It boils all the way down to who has the perfect circumstances that you want to fly besides because the perfect value and ideal routing.
