Does a Player get a Delay of Game (Puck Over Glass) Penalty If...(cont.)?
Today in the Devils/Coyotes game, Dimitri Kalinin got a delay of game penalty after hitting the puck over the glass while the puck was in mid-air. Shane Doan was arguing with the refs about this, and both commentators (Doc and Chico) were unsure about the play. Should Kalinin have gotten the delay of game (puck over glass) penalty, or is it within the rules to do so?

Yes, it is a penalty. Here is the exact rule.
A minor penalty for delay of game shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who deliberately shoots or bats the puck outside the playing area during the play or after a stoppage of play.
When any player or goalkeeper, while in his defending zone, shoots the puck directly (non-deflected) out of the playing surface, except where there is no glass, a penalty shall be assessed for delaying the game. When the puck is shot into the players’ bench, the penalty will not apply. When the puck is shot over the glass ‘behind’ the players’ bench, the penalty will be assessed.
Key words here "shoots or bats the puck"

It also depends on the place from where he hit the puck over the glass...If i remember correctly, if he did it from his defensive zone, then its a penalty...but if its from the offensive zone then it shouldnt be a penalty.
EDIT:
"When any player or goalkeeper, while in his defending zone,
shoots the puck directly (non-deflected) out of the playing surface,
except where there is no glass, a penalty shall be assessed for
delaying the game. When the puck is shot into the players’ bench, the
penalty will not apply. When the puck is shot over the glass ‘behind’
the players’ bench, the penalty will be assessed."

Well i didn't see the play, but if Kalinin hit the puck out of mid air w/ his stick then not only would it be high sticking, but he made a deliberate attempt to clear the puck and it went outta play then, Yes! he should recieve a penalty for delay of game. It happens all the time where the player doesn't mean to clear the puck outta play, but he still has to serve his two minutes

yeah that's a penalty.
I hate this new rule with a passion. Its not gonna be long until this fallacy in the rule book decides a stanley cup winner. Just wait until there is a Stanely Cup final on the line, the games in over time, a player unintentionally knocks a rolling puck over the class, and the opposing team scores on the power play and decides the series.
It's gonna be deja vu of the Dallas- Buffalo game years ago with the foot in the crease.

Unfortunately the way the rule is stated yes it is a penalty, he was the last one to put it over the glass uninterrupted. I felt it was a crap call but rules are rules.

On a deflection no but if he hit it over unimpeded then yes.
