Do I need to read Watchmen comic books before seeing the movie?
Dune is a movie that you have to read the book in order to make sense of it. Does Watchmen fall into the same category? Are Watchmen comic books a prerequisite for the movie?

I think it's not necessary. Just b prepared - it is NOT a typical comic book hero movie.
I went to see it with my wife. I had read the novel, she skimmed it. She had a TON of questions after seeing the movie, and I was able to answer them.
There is a "mystical" connection to reading the book and enjoying the movie. The majority of readers liked the movie, while non-readers are fifty-fifty about the movie.
So, you don't need to read the book. It enhances your experience of the movie. Just know that it is NOT a typical action-style movie. A friend of mine put it well when he said, "Watchmen is what happens when Superman hangs up his cape and goes home."

You do not have to read it before. But it takes away from the experience because if you have read the novel you will get more of the subtle comedy ( i was laughing but my friend missed it). But after seeing the movie i would recommend reading the novel, because things will just make more sense.
hope you enjoy it.

I wouldn't even bother paying to see Watchmen if I were you, it kinda sucked.
