wireless usb adaptor locked to 11mbs insteat of 54mbs?

I have just installed a wires usb device for another PC in my house.

It connected to the router OK but it is only communicating a 11Mbps even though the signal strength is excellent.

I have set it to both b & g.

Its a netgear 111wg 111. Anyone have any ideas as to why??

Thanks in advance.

Smart **** answers welcome as well as I could do with a laugh.

Update:

Spot on Insane. I was checking the PC specs and noticed it was only USB 1.

Its a fairly old PC. Give youself the afternoon off.

in the experience that your laptop already has instant outfitted into it and the works community is instant then you certainly shouldn't want an adaptor for artwork. purely ensure the instant means is enabled and the laptop could desire to do something - in spite of the reality which you would be able to could desire to renowned the settings of your works community. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that for the period of the experience that your works community isn't woreless you will could desire to ask then to provide you a community cable you should use. An adaptor for homestead use is pointless is you do not have a instant router as each and all the adaptor does is %. up the sign from the router.

if it's a usb one, it's probably because the USB slot can only transfer data at that speed. they arnt very fast.
