What would cause the upper portion of the furnace to shake and be extremely noisy?
Above ground heat pump with back up forced air furnace and first Winter in use. Had to turn off the furnace circuit breaker for the motion and noise to cease. Turning off the thermostat first, did not help.

fan is out of balance, or loose on the shaft

That would be the air handler. The fan or motor could have come loose or broke.
