Do you think the Republican party is moving further & further away from the desires of the American people?

Remember the Presidential primaries.....where every Democrat had a health care plan and a way to deal with environmental calamities we face, and some plan or principal on every issue.

While the whole Republican primary boiled down to 'who can do the best Reagan impression'? No ideas. No answers. No solution for our health care system.

The real problem here is that the Republican party is ran by radicals. They are chasing away moderates (Specter and the gals in Maine are the last ones). Republicans hope to run conservative candidates against these folks in the primaries though, which should give a lock to any Democrat that runs, in these decisively blue states.

The far right wing of the Republican party can only exist in the South, and that's because its base has always been propped on backlash to the Democratic support of the Civil Right laws. Reagan came to power on this backlash, and it has been played up to now.

The problem? That backlash is going away. Racism is fading. Most people realize that the Civil Rights movement was not just good, but essential. We are a generation past Civil Rights. This backlash doesn't sell in the north, and is starting to fade, even in the South now. Want to see examples....just look at Virginia, North Carolina, Florida (all blue)...and where Georgia could be in 2012.

This probably would have happened sooner, but Bush played up the war and fear to win in 2004. Even in 2004, on issues, the people overwhelmingly support Democratic policies.

The trend since 2006 has been clear, and unless Republicans start to embrace moderates, some variety of opinion, in the party - the Democratic control will increase.

It looks like it's splitting. The Repubs that just want to cut taxes and leave everything alone are offending the social cons that want to control what people do with their own bodies and private lives. And the religious right repubs. are not capturing support from those who really want to keep the gov't out of people's lives. Whether they can stay under the same tent is the question.

    I agree.

We need to change our governmental system all together. Democrats and Republicans always have to much power. If congress was divided up into like 4 Parties all equal in numbers, people would argue less and make more decisive decisions.

Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and the Green Party.

You are right about the black lash deal too. Republicans can only take the southern states. And I live in the south, I know how **** goes here. A lot of folks Republican or not, didn't vote for Obama just because he was "A Black Man".

And I am not kidding, those were the exact words I heard. And pretty soon that will all change, some of the states that are essential to Republican victory are leaning towards the blue, and Florida which is a heavy hitter for Republicans is now officially a blue state.

Lastly, your post will probably be deleted. Because Republicans can't take any sort of criticisms, even though they dish it out on yahoo answers on a normal basis.

Source(s): Once again, Donkey. Worry about you're Liberal England, you're not even a America so why don't you gtfo. Your opinion, your voice is absolutely void.

The republican party simply wasn't chosen to win the election this time around by the real powers that be. And for the most part both parties support the same exact things, they just have a different way of going about it. Both parties have, ever since 1913, radically expanded government, perused imperialistic goals under the mask of freedom and democracy (by the way, America was founded as a republic, there is a big difference, but that's for another time), an both have supported the rise of a fascist police state. In recent years most people have become aware of the fact that America was headed in the wrong direction, and they blamed bush because he's the one who was making it happen. But the as the people that have been awake to the lies of our government will tell you, the last real president this country ever had was JFK, and look what happened to him. He was gonna end the private federal reserve system, he was going for real change in the whole race department, he was gonna get us out of Vietnam. The Powers that really control this country didn't like that one bit.

    *Boom* head shot...

Ever since then it's been puppet after puppet. When ever the people start thinking they are truly free some disaster happens and we get all freaked out and the government doubles. Under bush the government tippled, he was a monster that condoned pouring acid over children's genitalia in front of their parents if their parents were suspected terrorists. Oh and al-queda, well, when I was in the 6th grade I learned all about them. See we had some very outdated school books and they said because the situation in Afghanistan was so intense they had to use inside operatives guided by the CIA to try to chase out the Russians. They just so happened to be called al-queda. Amazing that 2 days after 9-11 happened we got new books isn't it...

But for all you obama people that think he's gonna change the world here's a few things to ponder:

In his first 40ish days he spent more money than all the presidential regimes since JFK combined.

He has already tippled the size of government and there's plenty more growth on the way.

He said he wouldn't support the illegal wiretapping that bush did, then turned around and voted for it.

He said he didn't support the first banker bailout, then he got up on the hill and told everyone that we need to and then he voted for it.

He said he would bring our troops home from Iraq right away, then it was in 16 months, now he'll look at it in 23 months and maybe bring some out of Iraq. Mean while we need all these new troops in Afghanistan, something like 30000 more. Wonder where these will come from...

He wants a civilian army that would be under his control.

He wants a youth army that would be under his control.

He said he would end NAFTA, then admitted it was all talk.

This fantastic new health bill will force you to take medicines you don't want or need whenever the government says you have to take them. Nobody over 55 gets covered. He own words were something to the effect of Well, old people need to realize that they are getting old, and they need to die. not an exact quote but quite close. And guess what, there are gonna be waiting lists! you know, the ones they have in all places with socialized medicine that anyone here that supported the idea said didn't exist? Need a tumor looked at, well, maybe in 5 months... Gun shot wound? How about 3?

He said he wouldn't ever let a lobbyist get anywhere near Washington. Too bad his ENTIRE cabinet is lobbyists. they even control the parts of government that they lobby for! Not to mention that the vast majority are from wall street. Oh and also members of the CFR, Trilateral Commission and Buliderberg Group, organizations that openly state that they want to end America's freedom and bring in one world dictatorial government and then kill 80-99% of all humans. For our own good of course.

I could keep going you know... His chief of staff Rham Emanuel has been pushing for a new draft unlike anything you've ever imagined. not only will young people 18-25 have to go into the army, but everyone regardless of age must serve the government for a period of time, if he gets his way.

I don't really have time for a history lesson, but once upon a time in a little European country there was a man that was going to be the savior of his country and the whole world even... until he started killing jews, blacks, gays, ect. by the millions... he had an eerily similar list of policies to mr obama too... oh what was his name again...

    oh yeah. HITLER.

He's not bringing in change, he's putting the change that's already been occurring in this country on overdrive. Both republican and democrat are the same, they all follow the rules of the elite that control this country. Both sides have people that have half a brain too, and they would be better described as libertarians then democrat or republican, but you can pretty much only ge

by the way you phrase your question are you saying republicans are not american. If you are waiting for me or most of republicans to jump on barry;s band wagon don;t hold your breath. and there is the racism thing again you democrats are loving to use. how many times do we have to remind you that it is not the republicans with that idea it;s more on your side of the fence. and you are so full of your self about bush in 2004 another peice of propaganda you would love for people to believe. you seem to go to any length to get us to change our minds.if they supported the democratrs then why was a republican in office, try to make a little sense if you want to be taken seriously. and what is the threat you are making. we give in or the democrats will continue with their whipping stick . hey go ahead and worship your dear leader but leave us to our beliefs. this election have sure made you people very cocky.like the egotistical leader of yours.

Wow, I 'd be hard pressed to find a more imaginative, "whole cloth" question than yours.

Did you just type whatever came spilling out of your heart?

The ONLY reasons republicans aren't in charge right now are, (please take note):

    1. They did not offer a fiscal conservative candidate who would put forth the real principles of the republican party.

    2. The republican base didn't like McCain, he's always been considered a "mavericky-maverick"...i.e. a phony

    3. The republican congressmen and Bush had devolved into a kind of democrat-lite, spending just like the libs/socialists and most people couldn't see the difference.

Neither party does a respectable job representing the american people. Both are agenda and power driven. All they care about is the ability to get elected or re-elected. Both parties are the problem, neither is the answer.

Politicians are people who want to have government jobs of power. You know how some people want to be police, firefighters, or social workers? Well, politicians want to tell people what to do. Then they have to decide what is the easiest way to get elected in the area they want to live.Ever notice how many politicians don't follow the rules they make? Right now, there are no politicians that think they can get elected saying conservative things, ergo the pork on the last bill. What is needed is a conservative who can be convinced to run for a government job(congress) who is strong enough not to be corrupted.

republicans are closer to the american people then democrats.the democrats had no real plans for health care or environment or anything else for that matter, they only ran on the economy which they blamed bush for even though it was democrats with the banks that did it.people now see how empty the democrats promises are

I think you made an error in your question. I think you meant to say Democrats moving farther and farther away because right now Barry's policies and actions are bringing him the biggest falling approval rating in history. People (meaning Dems and others who voted for him) did NOT sign up for the cr*p he is pushing through congress. Even the liberal media (20/20 last night) is ripping him and his policies apart and it just keeps growing.
