Why is Ayn Rand not being taught in public school and in universities?

The genesis of the war on capitalism is fomenting and germinating in our own class rooms, yet the students are taught collectivist philosophy but are not taught any of Rands critically important work which stresses objectivism, self actualization and individualism.

In Yahoo! Answers, I see a number of questions related to Rand's Anthem. This suggests that Anthem is still required reading for many youngsters, as it was for many of us back when I was in school.

However, in college, I minored in philosophy and never once had a discusson of Rand, her works or Objectivism. Perhaps this is because academia shares the view that one encounters often in this forum, that Objectivism is a philosophy that one reads about when he is young but learns to "outgrow" by the time he gets older.

Your point as to whether or not the current economic crisis suggests an increasing importance of Rand's writings deserves consideration. On the one hand, it could be argued that the recent well-publicized criticisms of laissez-faire capitalism suggest a decreased demand for Randian philosophy. However, it is also easy to draw comparisons between the plight of America as it exists today and the fictional predicament outlined in Atlas Shrugged. This would tend to make Rand's writings more relevant than ever.

In the end, I have heard Objectivism criticized at length in this forum. There are many who find it offensive, and a smaller minority who find it laudable. However, it is hard to suggest that a philosophy that still generates this much discussion has ceased to be relevant, and I do hope it gains greater attention in schools and universities.

    Thanks for the question.

Simply put, her works are a condemnation of the Tyranny of Mediocrity, or if you will "The Tyranny of Stupidity".

Universities seek for the Platocratic Ideal of Utopia! The Despotism of the Pure Tyrant, arising from a pure society. They believe that Marx, Engels and Lenin established the true formula for this Social Elixir! Rand's works argue that they have discovered only a Political Hashish; and her arguments cut deep into the bone of this issue!

The Institutional bodies of Education have thoroughly committed their Professional, Institutional, and Personal Reputations upon this Platocratic Ideal and Modern Socialism as the formula to achieve! So Rand must be ignored or destroyed.

In what type? it won't be in English through fact it fairly isn't a literary classic and politics quite has no place in English type. it is not close to Shakespeare or Faulkner in that regard. might desire to or no longer that's in government or civics? No... there is not any time to study a unique, that's fiction, in a type approximately our government and its mechanisms. None of Ayn Rand's books do no longer even go into the specifics and mechanisms of the three branches. And permit's be straightforward, its a fictional tale outlining a political philosophy and purposely assaults yet another political philosophy. i'm helpful you're no longer for indoctrination in our faculties and that would desire to be indoctrination without a counter. i might desire my young little ones to benefit English, historic previous, arithmetic, technology and government... no longer political theory. it fairly is for a college education.

Simple: because they are "public" also known as "government" schools. Ayn Rand is not a big fan of government or the "state".

That is also why "Austrian" economics (the only one that makes sense) is not taught in government schools either

Wow, because there is actually quality literature that is in the canon and deserves to be, unlike Rand. There is literature which stresses all those things. Maybe in the next decade.

I do not know. But the realities of her characters does bring about great topics of discussion. How are these persons created and driven?

You have made a great point. Thank you.

Because he doesn't contribute anything by being a collectivist.

Because she is not seen as helpful or relevant?
