Implantation bleeding or period?

My husband and I are ttc. My period was due to start yesterday on the 13th. It surprised me and started on the 12th instead. All of a sudden today, less than 48 hours later, it stopped. I assumed it was my period but now I am unsure. Before it started my breasts we so tender it hurt to move at all. I am also exhausted even though I've gotten more sleep than normal. There was quite a bit of bleeding although not nearly as much as normal. I had mild cramps but they are usually really bad. I've read that implantation bleeding shouldn't use more than a panty liner and this was definitely more than that. Any thoughts?

My initial reaction is that this is your normal menstrual cycle based on the information you have shared. Implantation bleeding either does not show up at all, is not very visible or is light. If you receive blood flow lasting the amount of time you described and it was a lot of blood, that does not sound like implantation bleeding. In some rare cases however, a woman's period will continue, especially if she became pregnant closer to her regularly scheduled period date (some women have short lunar windows which causes this) and the pregnancy hormone does not send the 'instructions' soon enough to not begin the period, so you end up with an odd period, one that is shorter than usual or has on and off bleeding.

It is unlikely, but stranger things have happened so my advice is that you take a pregnancy test to rule it out. (Take it for your first urine sample in the morning.)

    Best of luck to you!
