It means actual poor people, people who are destitute. Like the woman who gave her all, and was commended by Christ for doing so. It means they have spirit, yet little else, so they are blessed with spirit or in spirit, and theirs is the kingdom of heaven. They may not have anything on earth, but they can be assured of the after life. Just as the sermon on the mount speaks of the meek, it speaks of the poor. It does not mean those who have little spirit, as some have said.

I have lived through and witnessed the question in action and seen its truth.

The poor and meek, because of their situation are forced by circumstances to help and support each other, share what they have with those that have less and therefore they gave out love in abundance, good helpful meaningful love. This was necessary for all to be able to function as a total society.

Truly the teaching of the scriptures.

This was from 1920 onward. Now we are too affluent and in a free for all society so much so that we have lost our faith and the meaning of life survival.
