The Evolve series are shorts that take place within various Gundam series. The original SD Gundam was a parody made just after Char's Counter Attack, it does not feature any characters from F91, Victory or later made Gundam series.

Technically there is a U.C. Gundam after Victory called G-Saviour, it's a live action movie. But it's place in the time line conflicts with a novel close to that same year called Gaia Gear, so it is disregarded and ignored. It's existences will be denied, it never happened. So say we all.

So a newbie in the Gundam Universe?? eh?

You know if you really want to follow the series you better/have a:

1. fixation with mecha.

2. have an itch for WAR themed shows.

3. enjoys anime ( of course! ).

4. Doesn't care whether its Japanese or American dubbed.

5. Likes sfx.

6. Last but not the least... likes horse-looking humanoid robots with a tendency to overpower their enemies and such...

Well, that's what I liked about it when I first started watching the series. I recommend watching Gundam Wing first then do everything else. Coz if you watch the latest, Watching Amuro Ray pilot a Gundam will not do you any good. But if you watch the first one though, you will be anxious enough to watch the latest and get all frustrated about the pace of the story and crap.... :)

But if you prefer reads: Try the Blue Destiny Manga. Then go from there..Read different versions and variations of the Story that is Gundam... You can even see different mecha designs and What Ifs? related to the merchandise.
