Oh my god yes! It's terrible...
Not to mention I absolutely beyond words hate chat speak... the level of immaturity and low education it portrays on a person is shocking.

I sometimes think it is a little awkward to read some questions because the spelling leads to possible misinterpretation.
I think that to consider it 'horrifying' is somewhat harsh.
For several hundred years the English language was in flux and spellings were as suited the writer. Standardisation surely helped guarantee comprehension, but so many of hour words are two ambiguous and downwrite confusing in there spelling. The general pronunciation of many common words has moved somewhat as the spoken dialect has been evened out by television and so spelling is possibly less important than it used to be.
I for one will correct people from time to time, but I advise caution because in the age of GLOBAL communication many contributors do not have English as their first language so criticism maybe slightly offensive.
In short, yes I do wunder wy peeple mispell comon werds but then so meny of those werds are not spelt as they are sed.

to be honest, isn't being so worried about spelling not the point though?
if you are trying to give advice and help people, surely it matters more that you help than if you spell your advice correctly?
I agree that there is a spell check on here, so there really isn't an excuse for poor spelling, but it isn't the main issue!
I can spell as well as anybody, and I'm "gifted and talented" in English, but I text speak on MSN and emails and texts.
It's quicker, perfectly intelligible and it provides a good way to chat.
I don't go around speaking in proper English, and I don't have to type perfectly and grammatically correctly either.
so tbh, i dnt thnk tht yu shud judge people hu txt type 'cos its jst a convenient way of tlkn on comps nd thngs nd it dsnt mean tht they r any less educated or thngs thn yu r, so dnt luk dwn ur noses at 'em
