1. Yes just teach them the basic importance of having the priviledge of using the internet. Don't give out ANY info.
2. Start by getting a good picture of yourself. Then add all of your friends on facebook. The more friends you have, the more lively it is!
3. No, many people leave their profile viewable by anyone public. It makes it easier for people to find them and add them as friends. Because face it, there's a lot of different people living in the same area with the same name.
4. DO NOT do #3. If you have a good profile picture of yourself, people will have no trouble finding you and adding you as a friend. Remember, DO NOT give out info. And this extremely important as well.
- Log on Facebook
- Click Settings on the top right
- Click the Settings Tab (most likely already on the Settings Tab)
- Next to Privacy, click "manage"
On this page, you can alter how the public can see you and find out. Make it as private or public as you want.
To make sure:
- Click Profile
- Change all the options into "Only Friends". This way, nobody else can bother you.
Have fun with Facebook! Just remember that you'll have to go through all of this in the beginning, but once you add your friends, you can make new ones, and just socialize! You can even play games by getting applications. Just search up a game or some other application you want and click Go to Application to get it.
Remember to be safe and have fun!
PS: Ignore the person that said you need to be 18 to make a facebook account. You can still make one if you're 12.

i would probably suggest for your 12 year old daughter to fall back and wait a couple of years but your son should be fine.
make sure that you put all of your security settings so that only your friends can view your profile. i would suggest that you do not let them add anyone they dont know as buddies. other than that.... they should be fine
to get started all you need to do is add some friends, upload a few pictures, and set a status then youll be ready to go. make sure to look for some people you may have lost touch with over the years. you never know who you may be able to find :]

I don't think a 12 yr old would even be able to create an account unless they lie about their age. In order to create an account without joining a school network (high school, college or university) you have to be at least 18. (last time I checked anyway)
