Next time congress votes on a congressional pay increase will it get turned down? They have failed just as bad as any executive at AIG.

Don't be a dick. Those AIG execs have contracts and you don't want the government to mess with the sanctity of contracts.

However, the congress CAN enact a new tax upon those who took the bonus. I say, a 90% tax with 15% penalty would be a very good thing to do.

Call it the Economic Outrage Emergency Tax Act of March 2009. Target anyone whose company took federal $$$, and sic the revenuers on them.

It was a part of this last stimulus legislation that Congress would not be getting the increase to go with inflation next year which they would be entitled to in January 2010. I don't remember if this stipulation was only for the one year or if it went further.

They did get one last year, as they now make $174,000 each in the House and Senate.

It wouldn't matter because it states in the Constitution, "No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened." Also, we both know that a lot of Representatives and Senators from both the left and right won't be there in January 2011. Therefore, it doesn't matter.

Chris Dodd added a amendment to the stimulus bill saying no limits to executive bonuses. This whole bonus BS is effing scam pulled by the libs to cover Nobama's falling popularity numbers.

We need a coup and a scaffold built on the mall.

One minute, they talk about how bad the economy is. The next, they're voting in favor of a $5000 pay raise for themselves.

If the democrats don't they will look like the biggest hypocrites in the country. They don't need a pay increase! Their housing, the schools their kids go to, their transportation and even their dry cleaning is paid for by the taxpayers!

I wish they would, whether dem or pub, i believe most agree that a pay increase for congress would be in bad form at the least, criminal at worst.

very few members of congress vote the increase down. since it averages around $5,000 a year, why should they. and we let them get away with it.
