Had an MRI of Nasolpharynex, report come back stating "Diffuse Lymphadenopathy and tonsillar enlargement"?

Ive been searching the web and have come across to many things to stress out about from Hodgkins Disease, Lymphomia, Rosai-Dorfman Disease amount other stuff indicationd a neck dissection needed to radiation therapy.

I'm still waiting on my doctors appoint to on weekend, but I have been sick to the stomach wondering how bad that one sentence is on the MRI report. Anyone familiar with medical terms on Mdical Image Reports or had/have simular things going on? Just need to sleep at night until I can see the doctor but easier said than done.

Any knowledge would be great.

What it is is scary medical jargon for swollen lymph nodes which can be caused by anything! Please, don't allow it to keep you awake at night! The lymph nodes pick up any kind of germ along with the tonsils and let you know that you have an infection. My mom and dad used to explain the tonsils as guards at the door intercepting germs and letting mom and dad know it was time to see a doctor! Bet the doctor tells you you need an anti-biotic.

I'm not going to get into what you have or have not got, because that's a job for your doctor who knows you and your case and has taken a history, and seen the images.

But I will happily explain those terms.

    1) Lympadenopathy just means swollen or englarged lymph nodes (lymph "glands"). You have nodes all over your body, but the most commonly felt to be enlarged, and the ones that this report is talking about, are in your neck. Diffuse means spread out, so its more than one.

There are many causes of swollen lymph nodes, some of which are scary, others benign. I wont get into that, as thats for your doctor. On its own it doesnt mean its definitely something bad.

    2) Tonsillar enlargement - it means your tonsils (fleshy bits at the back of your mouth) are swollen. There are again many causes of this, the most common one of which is common tonsillitis, but there are many more.

Overall, that sentence is not "bad" or "good" - it is just a describing sentence like "the sea in this picture is blue and it has a large sunset in it". The best thing to do would be to try and relax and not worry, and see what your doctor says.

    Hmmmmm

You have swollen lymph glands and enlarged tonsils.

Your Dr will give you an accurate diagnosis, but I would be guessing a bout of tonsilitis.
