When he got home he backed his boat into the dock, and that is when he noticed, then he coined the phrase 'You are the salt of the Earth'...if you want to believe in fairy tales...

As it was said, maybe she was in front of them. That said, the whole story is royally f****d. Mr God said he'd spare the city if 5 people in the city were worth saving. They found more than five worth saving, then God torched the city. Then it goes on to the incest and what not. Not good news. ;)

Well what prevented Lot from going back a few days after the destruction to have a look ?

THAT is your problem with this story??
The city is destroyed, the woman is turned to salt, God talking to people, etc etc... and this is the noodle you pick out of the soup?
Simple logistics. She was in front of him.

maybe they came back later and found her...maybe God told Lot in the same way He told him about destroying the town

Lot sensed that her wife was not there anymore. Most probably he saw the pile of salt on the ground.

He sent her on an errand right beforehand then left her there on purpose because sooner or later she would find out he was banging his obviously much younger and hotter daughters. He was a pervert and sexual deviant.

It's because like with any other work of fiction, the story is told from the third person omniscient point of view. It's not told from Lot's point of view.

If you actually read the passage, abraham looked back over it all the next day....and i'm sure they would have noticed her missing...DUH!!!!!!!
