Why is my kitty losing hair?
My kitty is losing huge patches of hair in random spots. There is one on his side and right at the base of his tail. The fur around his butt is totally gone. It's kind of gross. The last time I took him to vet (for a cold) he had a little patch that was missing. The vet said it was fleas. He doesn't have fleas..or at least not that bad! He hardly ever scratches. Should I take him in or can I treat it at home? What could it be? It doesn't seem to bother him at all. It just bothers me.

The same thing happened with my gramma's bulldog. The dog had the patches for since she was 4 years old, and lived a long happy live until she was 12.

Even if you aren't seeing fleas, you may have them. A mild infestation still produces enough fleas to cause your cat to itch. He may not be scratching, but he might be chewing his fur out instead. Continue to treat the cat and your home. Check for flea dirt in his fur -little black specks. Other possibilities:
-food allergies -your cat will need to eat a special diet designed for food allergies
-contact dermatitis -some cats are sensitive to allergens in the environment
-ringworm -your vet probably checked for that already
-mites -very uncommon in cats and usually starts on the head
-other?

It could possibly be his diet. My step-moms cat was like that and the vet put her on some sort of medication and a special diet and her fur is growing back slowly still. Idk who your vet is, but that was probably a glance assumption to what the problem is with your cat by suggesting the fleas. Try taking him back again, this time ask about the hair loss and if there is any kind of diet/type of food that can help grow it back.

I had a cat also with the same problem, It was stress cause i've just got a new cat. Another it could be a alergic reaction to something, it could even be a new carpet powder or stuffs like that.
I'LL SAY PLZ TAKE HIM BACK TO THE VET, HE BETTER GIVE HIM SOMTHING OR FIND A BETTER VET.

Could bea fungus, could be the fleas, could be an allergy. Go to the petstore and look around for something to treat it.

We had a cat who was losing her hair and it turned out to be scabies. Take your cat back to the vet and have him checked over for an infestation. If he does have scabies, you may have to submit him to a series of sulfur dunks (look out, smells like rotten eggs!).

My mother's cat does that and her vet said he has allergies. She has to take him and get a shot every now and then.
