There was a man who did that a few years ago here in my town, he was showing his young children how he could flatten a penny on the railroad tracks. Unfortunately he didn't get back quick enough and the train killed him, and his two children ages 4 and 6 saw the whole thing. I've never done and won't do it.

    Yes- when we were kid's.

We would put a penny on the track and wait.

We also put our ear down on the track to listen for a train - we could hear it coming before we could see it.

We were so stupid - not good to play on the railroad tracks.

It did smash them flat - we also did it with a nickle.

I would have grounded my kid's for doing that. I did a lot of dangerous stuff with my cousins - we are lucky we lived lived to tell about it..

What a great idea ! Such fun !

Wouldn't be able to do it now though, the trains are electrified and the tracks closest to us are heavily guarded and gated.

Back years ago when there was much less people in the world and less technology, playing up must have been so much fun.

Yep ~ penny, nickel, dime and a quarter. All at different times of course. Then took a tiny little drill bit, drilled a hole and made a necklace !!

We thought we were really rich on the days we wore the quarter !!

Yes we did, Hung around the tracks as teens. The boys would hop rides in the cars across town. They would get in the beer cars also and we would have refreshments until the R.R. detectives started patrolling.

We lived in San Francisco, so we used to put our penny's on the street-car tracks, all the time.

We used to live across the street from the train tracks, my two oldest kids did it all the time with all kinds of coins.

I saw this on "The Girls Next Door" and it worked, I would think that there would be like a vibration from the train onto the track but whatever. lol. :D
