I hear so many doomsday reports about global warming, Why cant we do this to stop it?

sink millions of tons of dirt, cement, steel and fresh water into the north alantic to stop the current from brining warm air to the north so it starts to cool again. Cant that start an early ice age? Would that really work?

I am not seriously sugesting such a stupid thing, just wondering if that would work?

Update:

Not one nation alone but I think Its possible. If every nation gathered together to dump all of its scrap metal and cement, dirt into one specific area in the ocean. Over time wouldnt it start to seriously disrupt the ocean current

Update 2:

I dont think its a lie. Look at pictures of places like greenland, artic and alaska from 50 years ago to today. Theres alot less ice, the earth is warming. Rather its natural or we created it is the big issue. We will probably never know.

You are right the earth is set to cool in another ice age, In 500 years but first we have to worry about all the ice melting .

Update 3:

Your right, our waist might be causing global warming but even if some of the countrys make a big enough effort to do it, not all will. Try to convince china to make the same effort lol.

They are expanding their industry and I dont think anything can stop them. We are likely going to have to just accept global warming

We DO know that the warming cycle is natural. Look at the ocean rise chart below. It has been going on for the past 18,000 years and the really big spike in warming was over 6,000 years ago.

If humans did not exist at all, it would have happened anyway. It is natural.

The oceans have risen over 400 feet - and we're crying about another maybe 20 feet? Seriously, are we living in some kind of catastrophe now caused by a 400 foot rise?

No - we are living on a much greener planet THANKS to GLOBAL WARMING.

Oh, and did anyone tell you about this massive volcanic explosion under the Arctic in 1999? One explosion released more CO2 than the entire history of human industry. It was HUGE - but the news people would not talk about it.

Arctic volcano released enough heat energy in one explosion (out of many) to melt ice cap area size of Massachusetts

You know what the biggest problem with us humans is that we think on 'small-scale' terms. Ok, from our perspective 200 years is a long time - but our planet has been around for over 5 billion years and counting. It has been through numerous cooling and warming periods during this time. Not to mention the odd extinction or two.

We are so arrogant that we assume that if we are wiped out then the world will come to an end. It won't - unless we irradiate the planet and actually wipe out every microbe in existence, life will persist. Just not life as we know it.

We need to stop worrying about our 'carbon footprint' and start worrying about the number of humans on the bloody planet. You want the species to survive? Then try trimming it down to about 1 billion or less. That would be a much better and responsible thing.

For decades, environmentalism has been the Left's best excuse for increasing government control over our actions in ways both large and small. It's for Mother Earth! It's for the children! It's for the whales! But until now, the doomsday-scenario environmental scares they've trumped up haven't been large enough to give the sinister prize they want most of all: total control of American politics, economic activity, and even individual behavior. With global warming, however, greenhouse gasbags can argue that auto emissions in Ohio threaten people in Paris, and that only global government can tackle such problems. National sovereignty? Democracy? Forget it: global warming has now brought the Left closer to global government, statism, and the eradication of individual rights than it has ever been before.

We've never intentionally tried to alter the global climate so we really don't know what will work or whether we would make it worse. The doomsday reports is more due to people's lack of comprehension, yes there are serious consequences even some extinction scenarios but Hollywood dramatic scenarios are not likely, dwindling resources and economic upheavals are more likely.

Also it's not warm air that the gulfstream brings but warm water. Air doesn't carry as much heat energy as water does.

Millions of tons would be utterly insignificant, and a project big enough to do that would be impossible for people to do. We're not that powerful.

The pyramids were huge... you couldn't find one if you dropped it in the Atlantic Ocean.. same with the great wall of China, or Hoover dam, and each project was, and would be a massive undertaking.

Peter is right, I don't think it is a very practical idea. And anyway I doubt it would work. I mean...it is just transporting heat from the tropics. If we were to somehow stop this transport, the heat would still be there. It would just build up in the tropics or find some other place to go.

Theres no point in doing that, when the Arctic ice caps melt they will divert the gulf stream themselves, causing cooler weather for North Western Europe

i don't think what you said up there would help at all. To stop global

warming i would suggest to you to...

    recycle more

change light bulbs into energy saving ones

    don't waste water

    don't waste gas

    don't cause pollution

i hope you find this useful and that you can understand it. best luck to you!=D

We are actually pumping trillions of tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. Now the oceans will warm and rise 20-40 feet. We have had our chance and now the earth will be destroyed.

Don't worry about it! Global warming is a big fat lie!
