Does this country really care about families?

Don't you find it funny that some people who complain and bemoan the lack of quality family time (usually conservatives) are the same people that when you propose to do something good about family, a law that gives you certain paid vacation time a year, health care for all regardles of what type of employment they have, longer maternity leave, paternity leave, pay according to the times so that one member of the family can afford to stay home with the kids, better education, subsidized daycares, flex time for workers and things of the sort they balk?

Update:

Do you people realize all industrialized capitalistic democracies have this?

Update 2:

Sarah: Family Time may not need money but it certainly needs TIME. Which is exactly what we don't have anymore because we spend most of it making money just so we can survive!

Update 3:

PS Other industrialized democracies don't have the freedoms, or the standard of living, that we do. Correct. They have better. Been there.

You will be called either a communist or a socialist for thinking such things!!!

Actually conservatism's end result would be poisonous to the traditional working family. The end result of conservatism (hiding behind a smoke screen of morality and family values to confuse working class voters into supporting them) will be lower wages, longer working hours, removal of union representation, lack of health care for all but the wealthy. no retirement for those that do not earn enough to save. the list goes on.

What most working class people that support conservatism can't see (because of a powerful propaganda machine) is that the TRUE agenda of conservatism is concentration of wealth at the top resulting in a HUGE population of working poor and a very small population of middle class who exist only to serve the wealthy elite.

You would think that a common sense approach to seemingly intractable problems such as these would be a no brainer. Unfortunately our society does not value any of the things it claims to value as much as it values money for it's own sake. That money alone does not equate to a higher quality of life seems to be a lost idea on those blind with greed. Your question clearly shows us that conservative ideology in the US has degenerated into a complete self delusion where conservatives preach responsibility but simultaneously absolve themselves from any responsibility to the society at large. It is furthermore highly ironic that many conservatives in this country call themselves christian conservatives when the vision of Jesus is completely opposite to their ideology. The central tenet of Jesus' teaching was that the world can be a better place if we simply care for one another. Conservative ideology says I'll get mine and if you fail screw you, even if your failure huts my family and my country oh well! It seems to consider the idea that we can make the world better by helping one another some sort of impossible socialist dream. Wow! So Jesus was a socialist?

Before the sixties, it was possible for one parent to make enough money to support a suitable income for a nuclear family. This changed and thus the trouble started.

I am not saying that the fifties were great or anything, but it is recognizable that no it practically takes two parents working full-time to support a nuclear family in good health and with opportunities that are competitive with the job market on a local level, never mind a global level.

If you look at the demographic of Blacks and the poor it looks like the government has put policy right in the cross hairs of family. The working poor are not aware of it but most of the burden in percentage of income has fallen on you and when the lay offs come you are the first to go. Sure they are going to keep you happy and keep the unemployment coming but the family takes many steps back. I hope we see a new view of common sense.

Probably not--- Both parties are hypocritical. That is why I'm an Independent.

In general, regardless of political orientation, families tend to not spend as much time together.

Well, I don't think you are one of those welfare ladies with 6 kids ( you don't sound like it ) but I agree with the first guy... Those ladies should keep their legs shut if they can't afford kids. I can't afford to have any kids and am working on my degree like how I should.

REAL, GENUINE family time doesn't need money. I guess just try your best when you are off work to be with your kids and maybe play with them or watch TV with them. Just little things.

You said:so that one member of the family can afford to stay home with the kids

I'm sure this can happen. They just don't want to give up their luxury items.

    You said:longer maternity leave,

Nobody is forcing you to go back to work.

    You said:better education

I'm up for that but that means having teachers that are willing to spend extra time with a student so they learn. We need more specail classes and more caring teachers. So that might not be money issue more so a caring issue.

These people like to talk about family. But they don't really want to do anything for families. For some reason they think that family values has something to do with gay marriage, abortion and school prayer. Those are the issues they care about. They don't care if families have a place to live, or enough to eat, kids have good schools to go to. If you want to know about caring about families talk to a liberal.

A majority of households actually prepare for the joy of having a child financially so that when the time is right, one member of the family will always be home with that child. They are not selfish and expect laws to be written and their wishes dictated to their employers by the government. Isn't it funny how (usually liberals) we expect to be given things, when more responsible (usually conservatives) people work fore their privaleges.

There is also a personal responsibility factor. If you can make a baby, then you should also be responsible for the baby. It is not necessarily everyone elses responsibility to pay for your kid. We got this far not paying for everyone elses' kids, so why is there a need to do it now? I believe we should help people get on their feet, but we should not continuously support bad behavior... that's just the deinition of insanity.
