I am planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas Mexico in June. Do you think that it is safe to go right now?

I have heared that there have been many kidnappings happening lately in Mexico, which i thought were happening deep in Mexico(Tijuana, Mexico City,,etc) but have they been going on in Cabo San Lucas as well? We are not planning on leaving the tourist area, but is it still safe in the tourist are? Do you think it will be safe to go in June? Need some advice on this. Thanks.

You are being a victim of bad advertising. It is completely safe in Cabo. I assume you're going by plane. You'll be staying in a hotel and as long as you keep to the tourist side (beaches, bars and shops) there is nothing to worry about. All the drug cartels are on other places. It is just as safe as Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. All places that rock on the spring break. Just take care not to get too intoxicated as to be prey to anybody else.

    Have fun!

Why is everybody scared to go to mexico!? Ask somebody that goes all the time and u'll b surprised what they tell u! I go all the time and have never had anything happened to me,what happens is that people that never go to mexico are scared cause they see the news about the drug war,but the drug leaders arnt killing tourist, their fighting in neighborhoods, not even close to tourist attractions! Dont scared, obvious ur not gonna be walking around in alleys or in the middle of the night by ur self or are u,its not safe to do it in the states so y would one do it in mexico, all it is is common sense!!!! And they do kidnap people, but what happens, lets say u are american and live in cabo, well ur neighbor might see that u have nice cars and some money, they tip somebody off and they kidnap u! But that happens when people see u around in town alot, like if u live their and they know how u live but if u go for a week they aint gonna know much about u! But they aint kidnapping tourist unless ur wearing a $100,000 rolex and pull out $1000's of dlls when ur paying for something, then u deserve to get kidnap for flaunting in a poor country!

NO its not safe. It is happening in the tourist areas like Puerta Varrata, Cancun, and Cabo san lucas. The Mexican government is saying its safe because tourism is what makes most of there economy and if nobody comes anymore they will go broke. Do not go to mexico its so bad it even dangerous to be in bordering cities IN THE USA such as San Diego and places in Arizona because they are crossing the border

I have no idea why people are being miss led with this information. I live in Cabo and it's completely safe like it's always been. I think tourist are safer than locals.

Honestly, don't worry about it and come down and have fun! Even when you are not in touristy places, people look after you, you'd be surprised. But if it makes you feel better, stick to the downtown area. Have fun!

I live in Cabo San Lucas and have for close to 20 years. It is very safe here. The problems with the drug cartel are thousands of miles away and even then in those areas if you are not involved in their business it's highly unlikely anything would happen to you. You are, like someone else answered, a victim of bad advertising.

we just got back from Cabo san Lucas this past February and it was fine. Still lots of tourists and we didn't have any troubles at all. We even walked home from the bar to the hotel in the dark. Ran into locals but they didn't bother us. Just be smart and use common sense... I think you'd be fine.

Hola. That is the question of the hour. Its amazing what a little american media can do. (The spin doctors probably did it to make sure everyone stayed at home and spend their money in the USA!!)

Anyway. Things are fine down here in Cabo. I live down here and walk the streets and have no problems at all. As long as you aren't looking for trouble (drugs, prostitutes) you will be very safe.

Just returned from a 2 week stay in Cabo and had no problems. We

actually drive down the Baja Peninsula every year and have never had

    any problems.

You are safer in Cabo than Chicago, Miami or NYC!!!

use Travelers Common Sense which I've written about dozens of times in these responses.....

    Go...Have Fun.....Enjoy Yourself.....

Most of the drug violence is in and near the border areas and in certain states like Sinaloa.

The major touristy places have been relatively safer than say, Nogales, or Mexico City.

The tourist areas are okay for the most part but make sure you stay in a big group and watch your drinks. You may want to look into travel insurance as well. Here is a good article on that.
