Recently prescribed "Crestor" by my diabetes doc. Can anyone tell me of bad experiences with it?

I've had problems with the statins before and I want to know if Crestor is any different. Some of the stuff I've read about it isn't flattering. Just another "statin" with a new "patented" price tag? Thanks in advance.

Crestor is one of the most potent statin in the market. Problem with one statin does not always imply problem with all statins. Muscle ache and liver enzyme issues may be related to statin dose. Since 10 mg of Crestor is just as strong as 60 or 80 mg of Zocor, it will give you the same lowering with less chance for side-effect. My guess is that your doctor is prescribing Crestor to you because you have very high LDL and has failed other statins. You may also have diabetes which would require your target LDL to be less than 100. Crestor and Lipitor are both very strong and less drug to drug interactions. If you cannot tolerate any statin, you may talk to your doctor and consider Welchol. Crestor may cost more because it is not yet available in generic form. Rare cases of rhabdomyalysis can occur with any statin, but it is more often in conjunction with a fenofibrate if the statin is prescribed at very high dose.

Type 2 diabetes, usually referred to as adult onset, is when your body produces insulin but can not use it properly. This type can be treated successfully with the right diet and exercise in most circumstances. Read here https://tr.im/diabetestreatment

If blood sugars are not kept under control at some point insulin will probably be integrated / oral medications are also available. People with diabetes can live long, happy lives but must be diligent in their care and make sure you see your endocrinologist on a regular basis.
