Baby rat, very thin, not eating as well as should?
My rat had babies exactly 5 weeks ago, there is one in particular that has always been smaller- the runt i assumed, but lately ive noticed that shes much thinner than the other rats, much smaller, and still has her soft, fluffy baby fur.
i'm worried b/c she doesnt appear to be interested in eating any of the other things the rats love (chocolate, cheese, peanut butter, rat food!!) but she will eat wheat thins.
i dont know what to do i dont know if i should worry.
im going to bet dry tail tomorrow, she has soft stool, but other than, what can i do?
HEY! alert, alert, chocolate is helpful for rats. it is NOT poison to all animals. so PLEASE do not try and "help" me by telling me to stop feeding it to her. look up rat respiratory problems. any respectable website WILL tell you to feed them a small amount of chocolate. it helps clear congestion. thank you for nothing

Hmm....
It sounds to me like you're right, more of a runt.
The biggest thing I would be concerned about are respiratory issues. Make sure that she's not sneezing, coughing or wheezing. If you know about the benefits of feeding chocolate to rats in small quantities, I'm sure you would know about myco.
I would continue to offer her whatever food she will eat. When rats are underweight and that young, it doesn't matter so much WHAT they eat - give her whatever she will eat as it's critical she put weight on. I have heard a product called Nutrigel being highly recommended for underweight rats, it's worth seeing if you can find it.
If she doesn't put weight on or sill looks 'off', I'd take her to a vet.

ugh, don't listen to that wtfcats guy. he's rude and not smart about this. but anyway. just spend some time with the rat trying to get it to eat. honestly it may be the runt and the runts never usually eat as much as the others from what i know from any other type of animal with runts. so just try to get her to eat more. keep feeding her those wheat thins and try to fatten her up. and make sure she gets enough exercise. if she's like acting weird, try taking her to a vet or calling them and asking them about it.
hope this helps(: goodluck with your little rat(:

How about you supplment the babies with soy baby formula this is the best subsitute. You will want to continue the doe's regular diet but slowly increase the quantity available and add a large daily portion of curly kale, spring greens, and other leafy veggies. A grain mix (with added mix of higher protein/fat foods like dry low fat dog kibble) combined with fresh soy milk and lab blocks makes a good daily meal. Giving foods like scrambled eggs can be a meaningful and healthy treat for her. Monitor your mama and if there is any skin irritation, hair loss, or scratching, decrease the amount of protein.

Try feeding her a small amount of dairy product. Also put lots of different foods in their cage. Ex: Dog food, rat food, yogurt drops, biscuits, fruits and veggies, cheese, a small amount of milk, crackers, cereal, meat, broth, and/or protein tables some pet stores offer.
