Anybody else read Tom Clancy? Does he get a lot wrong?
I'm reading Tom Clancy's "Special Forces" (one of his non-fiction titles).
I'm not involved in the Special Operations world at all, but I have friends who are; and I've already spotted a couple of factual errors.
What do you think, is it a coincidence that the couple of things I know about are the couple of things he got wrong; or is he wrong a lot?

He is wrong all the time. I've only read a few of his books, but he is the same as most authors in the genre, who all right about things they have no understanding of.

My father was an ex-Marine and a military history fanatic. He always said he read everything Clancy ever wrote just so he could yell at him! I thought that was funny, but it's no guarantee of major inaccuracies either, because my father was far from infallible himself. I can't tell you anything other than that because I think Clancy's writing style is entirely leaden and I just can't read him. Anyway, now it's just a franchise. There's no telling who's putting those books together.

My cousin spent 20 years on submarines and he told his mother she was NOT to read Hunt For Red October. There must have been some reason for him to be concerned that if she read it she would worry more about him.

I only read the fiction books...
But they pwn.
I dunno, if he doesn't make the book more glamorous than it really is, no one will buy it.
