  • How can I keep a DShK from jamming?

I have a DShK (no, not personally) that jams after every 3-5 rounds. A co-worker of mine says this happens because the rounds are lacquered to prevent corrosion, and the lacquer heats up in the chamber and gums everything up. Any suggestions on how I can clean the lacquer off the rounds? (Preferrably without taking the links apart)

Note: For the curious, the DShK is a Soviet/Russian Heavy Machine Gun, comparable to the M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun.

  • The dealership wrecked my car - How long should it take them to fix it?

I took my 2009 Subaru Forester to the dealership for service last Friday. They ran into it with their parts truck. What is a reasonable length of time for them to repair it and return it to me? They destroyed the grill, hood, radiator support, and front left quarter panel.

I'm getting pretty ticked off, because it is the vehicle I use to pull my boat trailer, and it is a 4 day weekend for me.

  • Anybody else read Tom Clancy? Does he get a lot wrong?

I'm reading Tom Clancy's "Special Forces" (one of his non-fiction titles).

I'm not involved in the Special Operations world at all, but I have friends who are; and I've already spotted a couple of factual errors.

What do you think, is it a coincidence that the couple of things I know about are the couple of things he got wrong; or is he wrong a lot?

  • When does the Army FY09 E-7 promotion list get published?

No, I'm not asking for a copy of the advance list; I'd just like to keep my Soldier from getting an ulcer. It's his 5th look, and he's desperate to know when the list comes out.

    Thanks.

  • Does any branch of the military actually use the term "rank up" to decribe promotions?

Just wondering, since so many questions on Yahoo ANswers refer to "ranking up," and I'd never heard of it before here.

    Thanks

  • Are Army Unit Identification Codes (UICs) classified?

    Confidential, For Official Use Only?

I've always wondered, because they are hard to find online.

    A reference would be appreciated.

  • Do recruiters earn a commission?

A lot of people on here seem to think that military recruiters earn a commission. Does anybody have any specific examples, or is this just the uninformed saying what they think?
